{"id":371928,"date":"2017-11-11T09:34:51","date_gmt":"2017-11-11T09:34:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=371928"},"modified":"2017-11-11T09:34:51","modified_gmt":"2017-11-11T09:34:51","slug":"northern-devt-authority-zongo-devt-fund-bills-passed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/11\/northern-devt-authority-zongo-devt-fund-bills-passed\/","title":{"rendered":"Northern Dev&#8217;t Authority, Zongo Dev&#8217;t Fund Bills passed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Zongo Development Fund Bill and the\u00a0Northern Development Authority (NDA) Bill, were\u00a0read for the third time and passed in Parliament on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The Zongo Development Fund bill seeks to establish the legal framework for the implementation of the Zongo Development Fund.<\/p>\n<p>Muslim students are expected to benefit from scholarship packages under the Zongo Development Fund.<\/p>\n<p>$50 million dollars was allocated to the Fund, which was a line item in the 2017 budget.<\/p>\n<p>Education has been noted as a priority area\u00a0of the fund, and the stocking of libraries, rehabilitation of schools in the Zongos\u00a0and empowering Arabic instructors are some of the expected interventions.<\/p>\n<p>The NDA is one of three Development Authorities which the Akufo-Addo administration envisioned to speed up development initiatives nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>The government also promised to establish the Middle-Belt Development Authority, for the Brong Ahafo, Ashanti, and Eastern Regions; and the Coastal Development Authority for the four coastal regions.<\/p>\n<p>The three development authorities will be under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP), which is expected to receive an annual allocation of $275 million.<\/p>\n<p>The Akufo-Addo administration had already indicated that, the IPEP will cater for its $1 million per constituency pledge.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Zongo Development Fund Bill and the\u00a0Northern Development Authority (NDA) Bill, were\u00a0read for the third time and passed in Parliament on Friday.
