The Minister of Health, Dr.<\/em> Kwaku Agyeman-Mensah is on his way to the Elubo border in the Western Region to monitor and assess measures being put in place to screen persons entering the country for the Ebola disease.<\/p>\n

The Minister is accompanied by his deputy, the country representative\u00a0\u00a0 for the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr Magda Robalo, and the Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS).<\/p>\n

The Acting Director of Public Health and some officials of the Health Ministry also accompanied the minister on this trip.<\/p>\n

The Public Relations Officer of the Health Ministry, Tony Goodman told Citi News, Dr. Agyeman-Mensah is visiting the various entry points into Ghana to ensure all emergency measures are put in place as ordered.<\/p>\n

From the Elubo border, the Minister will visit Komenda in the Central Region because of reports that a resident who had come to Ghana from Liberia had died from the disease.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Minister wants to go there and see what is happening and verify whether that rumor is true,\u201d Goodman said.<\/p>\n

He stated that the sector Minister visited the Kotoka International Airport in Accra to \u201csee some areas for quarantine and treatment centers, the preparedness of the health personnel to care of those challenges that we are expecting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Goodman mentioned that it is imperative for the Health Minister to touch base with persons and institutions setting up the various emergency centers across the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are on red alert for any suspected case,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

These visits by the Minister and his team follow a media briefing last week where he assured Ghanaians that the government is doing its best to protect citizens from the disease.<\/p>\n

He indicated that Ebola treatment centers were being established across the country, specifically in Accra, Kumasi and Tamale, to cater for the southern, middle and the northern zones of Ghana.<\/p>\n

So far, four West African countries, Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria are battling with the Ebola virus.<\/p>\n

The sub-regional death toll of the disease has risen to 887.<\/p>\n
