{"id":369879,"date":"2017-11-10T06:11:37","date_gmt":"2017-11-10T06:11:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=369879"},"modified":"2017-11-10T12:39:34","modified_gmt":"2017-11-10T12:39:34","slug":"kuntunse-illegal-chinese-tomato-factory-operating-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/11\/kuntunse-illegal-chinese-tomato-factory-operating-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Kuntunse: \u2018Illegal\u2019 Chinese tomato factory operating again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Happy Sunshine Company, producers of La Vonce tomato\u00a0paste, has started operating again, though it is yet to receive all the needed documentation from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).<\/p>\n<p>Residents at Korleman City, an estate at Kuntunse in the Ga West Municipality, have raised concerns about how the activities of the company are affecting them.<\/p>\n<p>The residents first raised concerns over the possible long-term health hazards, following the improper disposal of waste by operators of the factory.<\/p>\n<p>Thick smoke fills the air during the company&#8217;s operation both during the day and at night, with excessive noise.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_370046\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-370046\" style=\"width: 282px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-370046 \" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/smoke-1-169x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"282\" height=\"501\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-370046\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Smoke from the factory at night.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Independent investigations by the EPA revealed that, the tomato factory was operating illegally and the agency proceeded to fine the company GHc15,000.<\/p>\n<p>The company was also ordered to halt any form of production.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-369883\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Happy-sunshine-Company-producers-of-La-Vonce-tomato-paste-2.jpg\" alt=\"happy-sunshine-company-producers-of-la-vonce-tomato-paste-2\" width=\"653\" height=\"367\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The factory, which belongs to some Chinese expatriates, stopped operating for a while, but has now resumed full production again.<\/p>\n<p>Alhough the Happy Sunshine company operates within the jurisdiction of the Ga West Municipal Assembly, the assembly has refused to\u00a0comment on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Naa Kwaamah Siaw-Marfo\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Happy Sunshine Company, producers of La Vonce tomato\u00a0paste, has started operating again, though it is yet to receive all the needed documentation from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
