It is such a pity. Why will you embarrass the president so much? You go and take a whole president to bring him to come and launch a system that is 419,\u201d John Mahama said.<\/p>\n<p>The former president made the statement in an address to thousands of party supporters in the Central Regional capital, Cape Coast, after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) held its third Unity Walk after the December polls.<\/p>\n<p>The former president said he had restrained himself from commenting on governance issues after losing the presidential seat to the NPP\u2019s Nana Akufo-Addo, because he believed that every new government needed time to settle in office, but \u201cit looks like NPP is whittling away its honeymoon period with the mistakes that it is doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He called on the president to \u201cshow that he is serious about corruption\u201d by holding someone accountable for the <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>launch of the $2.5 million digital addressing system<\/strong><\/span> which he [Mahama] believes is fraudulent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we talk about accountability, this is where the president should show that he is serious about corruption. Somebody must account for 15 million giving away free of charge. \u00a0When I was in office, there was a bus branding incident, GH\u00a23.6m, a minister of state resigned because of GH\u00a23.6m,\u201d John Mahama said.<\/p>\n<p>He, however accused the President of not being able to \u201ctake firm action in anything\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is wrong with the digital addressing system?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Digital Addressing System, christened, \u00a0Ghana Post GPS, which was launched on October 18, 2017, was part of the NPP&#8217;s ideas to formalizing the country&#8217;s economy by digitally mapping and proving a digital address to all locations and properties in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The project was undertaken by Vokakom at <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/10\/05\/digital-address-system-to-cost-2-5m-bawumia\/\">a cost of $2.5million<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Following its launch, many IT experts have cast doubt over the system, spelling out various <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/11\/02\/10-reasons-digital-address-system-is-flawed-article\/\"><strong>flaws that make it a faulty tool<\/strong><\/a><\/span> to undertake the purpose for which it was built.<\/p>\n<p>Among the flaws some have mentioned, is the over-reliance of the app on internet connectivity especially when internet penetration in the country is still low.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Jonas Nyabor\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former President John Dramani Mahama has described\u00a0the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government\u2019s newly launched\u00a0Digital Addressing System\u00a0as pitiful.
