{"id":367819,"date":"2017-11-02T18:25:08","date_gmt":"2017-11-02T18:25:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=367819"},"modified":"2017-11-02T18:25:08","modified_gmt":"2017-11-02T18:25:08","slug":"court-throws-out-case-against-charlotte-oseis-lawyer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/11\/court-throws-out-case-against-charlotte-oseis-lawyer\/","title":{"rendered":"Court throws out case against Charlotte Osei\u2019s lawyer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The petitioner seeking the removal of the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Charlotte Osei, has had his application challenging the legitimacy of the lawyer representing the EC boss thrown out.<\/p>\n<p>The petitioner, Maxwell Opoku-Agyemang, had earlier argued\u00a0that, Mrs. Osei\u2019s lawyer, Thaddeus Sory, should not be allowed to represent her over a possible conflict of interest situation.<\/p>\n<p>He contended that, because of Mr. Sory&#8217;s duty to the Commission, he could not stand as lawyer for Mrs. Osei as an individual, and should be restrained from representing her.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Sory\u00a0argued that, despite him being Lawyer to the EC, the Commission was not a\u00a0party to\u00a0the substantive case in court, as Mr. Opoku-Agyeman was the being sued.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_265224\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-265224\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-265224\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Srry1-e1413654035290.jpg\" alt=\"Counsel for EC, Thaddeus Sory\" width=\"500\" height=\"334\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-265224\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Counsel for EC, Thaddeus Sory<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Prior to this, Mrs. Osei had sued Mr. Opoku Agyeman for defamation because he published the contents of the petition for the EC boss&#8217; removal before it got to the president.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Opoku-Agyeman, in turn, filed an application to strike out the\u00a0lawsuit against him on grounds of possible conflict of interest, in addition to the claim that\u00a0Mr. Sory had confidential information on the case that could be used against him.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/19\/ec-staff-petition-nana-addo-to-sack-charlotte-osei\/\">petition<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0was forwarded to the Presidency from unnamed EC staff who are being led by Lawyer Opoku-Agyemang, against Mrs. Osei, which is pending before the Chief Justice.<\/p>\n<p>In the petition, a litany of allegations have been leveled against Mrs. Osei, including spending GH\u00a23.9 million to partition an office, receipt of a Toyota Land Cruiser from the erstwhile John Mahama NDC government, spending about $14 million when the Public Procurement Authority had authorized her to use only $7.5 million, as well as attending Cabinet meetings during the tenure of the President John Mahama, among other issues.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By:Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The petitioner seeking the removal of the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Charlotte Osei, has had his application challenging the legitimacy of the lawyer representing the EC boss thrown out.
