{"id":366681,"date":"2017-10-30T13:39:32","date_gmt":"2017-10-30T13:39:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=366681"},"modified":"2017-10-30T13:39:32","modified_gmt":"2017-10-30T13:39:32","slug":"cattle-rearing-methods-must-change-to-avert-fulani-clashes-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/10\/cattle-rearing-methods-must-change-to-avert-fulani-clashes-minister\/","title":{"rendered":"Cattle rearing methods must change to avert Fulani clashes \u2013 Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour,\u00a0says until Ghana reconsiders the methods used in rearing cattle, the constant reports of deadly clashes between nomadic herdsmen and local residents will not stop.<\/p>\n<p>He wants assembly members at the local level, to consider enacting by-laws which would be a guide to cattle rearing in communities.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, such by-laws when adhered to, will go a long way to avert further clashes between\u00a0nomadic Fulani herdsmen and community members.<\/p>\n<p>He made the remark following reprisal attacks between herdsmen and some community members at Dwibease and Wheewhee in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region, which has left to the <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/10\/29\/9-dead-after-fulani-herdsmen-and-farmers-clash\/\"><strong>death of people<\/strong><\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_294328\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-294328\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-294328\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Eric-Kwakye-Darfour-2.jpg\" alt=\"Eastern Regional Minister\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-294328\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Eastern Regional Minister<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;NamiYFPpdrXb066cb32cvUJ2gfZ8F5pn&#8221;]Hundreds of residents have also fled to nearby villages to stay with family and friends, for fear of being caught up in the attacks.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the <strong>Citi Breakfast Show<\/strong> on Monday, the Minister, said there is the need to change the method of cattle rearing in Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCattle rearing has now become a big business in Ghana, and all manner of people are all getting into it. Chiefs, assembly men and others, are all gettin into the trade in Ghana. On several occasions in Ghana, some governments have tried to use the radical way \u2013 Operation cow leg, one, two or three \u2013 how many times didn\u2019t we have Operation cow leg? In Kufuor\u2019s time it was there as well as Atta Mills\u2019 time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI as a person, until about 1970, I hadn\u2019t even seen a cattle before. But now cattle are everywhere, even if you come to the environs of RCC, you will see cattle.
