All is set for the third edition of the Northern Ghana Investment Conference (NGIC) slated for August 13 at the Tamale Sports Stadium.<\/p>\n
The theme for the 2014 edition is, \u201cProjecting the resource potentials of Northern Ghana for accelerated development; the role of Public-Private Partnership.\u201d<\/p>\n
The four-day event seeks to bring together major stakeholders and the region\u2019s most dominant corporate players in banking, insurance, Information Communication Technology (ICT) and other businesses under the Small and Medium Enterprise categories to network and act together.<\/p>\n
Activities lined up for the four-day event include exhibition of products and services, investment and entrepreneurial development seminar, northern business executive breakfast meeting and northern business excellence awards night.<\/p>\n
Among speakers expected to address the four-day event are Second Deputy Governor of Bank of Ghana, Dr. Abdul Nashiru Issahaku, Renowned Economist, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Chief Executive Officer of the Export Trade, Agricultural and Industrial Fund (EDAIF) and Dr. Barfuor Osei.<\/p>\n
Other speakers include, the Executive Chairman of Wienco Ghana Limited, Mr. Henri Wientjes, Minister for Labour and Industrial Relations, Hon. Harunah Iddrisu and Minister for Road and Highways, Hon. Inusah Fuseini, Chairman of the Northern Development Forum (NDF), Dr. Hakeem Weimah and Executive and Marketing Director of Agricultural Development Bank, Mr. Sulley Adams.<\/p>\n
According to the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), less than 0.1% of foreign investors attracted to the country invest in Northern Ghana.<\/p>\n
This does not only show the lack of attention on wealth creation in Northern Ghana but also a failure on the part of duty bearers to implement the country’s investment policies needed to bridge the yawning developmental disparities between Northern and Southern Ghana.<\/p>\n
It is against this backdrop that investment promoters, \u00a0Ridmut Consults initiated the Northern Ghana Investment Conference in 2012 to showcase the investment potentials in Northern Ghana as best means of attracting investors.<\/p>\n
The previous editions were organized in collaboration with the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA), Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, the Northern Regional Coordinating Council, the Northern Development Forum (NDF) and other industry players.<\/p>\n
The annual conference is to serve as a catalyst of promoting businesses and investment in Northern Ghana.<\/p>\n
About 50 exhibitors and investors participated in the previous occasions and 30 more have shown interest in the upcoming event.<\/p>\n
Chief Executive Officer of Ridmut Consults, Mutawakil Riyad told Citi Business News the four-day event aims at improving the previous editions.<\/p>\n
According to him, the Investment and Entrepreneurial Development Seminar will inspire young people to embrace innovation, imagination and creativity to overcome the challenges facing young entrepreneurs such as nervousness, lack of technical knowhow and unfriendly business environment.<\/p>\n
On the subject of the Northern Business Executive Breakfast Meeting, Mutawakil Riyad explained, \u201cThe Northern Business Breakfast Meeting seeks to provide structured discussion groups of business executives which will provide an avenue for executive briefings, networking and business matching platform for CEOs, senior management professionals, entrepreneurs’ and government officials to meet and discuss current business trends and opportunities in Northern Ghana.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mutawakil Riyad said the Northern Business Excellence Awards was initiated to honor organizations and individuals that demonstrated the core values of business excellence, product excellence, sustainability and commercial success in their respective sectors annually.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Awards are an acknowledgement of innovative business processes, product development, enterprise, sustainability and overall business success in Northern Ghana.\u201d<\/p>\n
Undeniably, investment opportunities in Northern Ghana are enormous and the people are very accommodating.<\/p>\n
The area is known for its vast arable land meant for commercial agricultural purposes and other viable projects.<\/p>\n
A recent discovery of yet investment potential is sugar cane which experts said the land in Northern Ghana \u00a0is fertile for its production in large quantities.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, there is little or absolutely no exploitation of these opportunities to boost the business climate in Northern Ghana.<\/p>\n
