Citi FM will from today [Thursday] October 26, 2017, host the ten finalists of The Literacy Challenge 2017 in Accra, as they gear up to compete for the ultimate reward of Ghc10, 000 among other prizes.<\/p>\n

The finalists will be in the Literacy Camp, at the plush Swiss Spirit Hotel & Suites Alisa in Accra from today [Thursday] till Saturday, when the final event, a Live Quiz competition, will be held at the same venue to crown the winner.<\/p>\n

Activities lined-up for The Literacy Camp<\/strong><\/p>\n

The students will participate in various fun activities in and outside the hotel, during the period. The activities will also include an industry tour of Olam, producers of Milky Magic biscuits and various milk products.<\/p>\n

They will also be taken through a mentorship session by Michael Ohene-Effah, an International Development Consultant, who will among other things, teach the children how they can become great leaders in future by building self-confidence.<\/p>\n

Madam Eugenia Tachie-Menson, Country Director of the Young Educators Foundation, the organisation that organizes the National Spelling Bee competition, will also take the kids through a series of exercises that will improve their vocabulary and grammar.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Funmi Onuma, Country Manager, Silverbird Group, at whose outfit they will be watching a movie on Thursday night at the Accra Mall, will also take them through the Importance of Reading.<\/p>\n

Mr. George Nkonsah, Area Business Development Manager, BIC Ghana Cluster, one of the sponsors of the event, will take the kids through the art of thinking on your feet.<\/p>\n

They will also be allowed to undergo some personal reflections, after which they will spend some time with the Quiz Mistress, Ms. Yaba Haffar, an Educationist, before the grand finale quiz competition itself at 10:00am on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Out of the 10 contestants, eight are from schools in the Greater Accra Region, whereas the other two are from schools in Brong Ahafo and Upper West Regions.<\/p>\n

The ten are those who scored highest in Level II [an aptitude test] of the competition, which was came off on Saturday [October 21] at the British Council in Accra.<\/p>\n

The contestants, who made it to Level II, were among 50 students from various schools across the country.<\/p>\n

All 50 students received GHc500 each, a certificate of merit, and a medal for making it to level II of the contest.<\/p>\n

About the Literacy Challenge<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Literacy Challenge was launched on July 19, 2017, for JHS students in Ghana, who were tasked to write and suggest to the president how to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa.<\/p>\n

After over 2,000 entries were submitted, external examiners marked the scripts and selected the top 50 who went to the British Council to write the aptitude test.<\/p>\n

The Literacy Challenge is sponsored by BIC Pen, Milky Magic Biscuit, Cowbell and Slydepay.<\/p>\n
