{"id":365181,"date":"2017-10-25T20:11:49","date_gmt":"2017-10-25T20:11:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=365181"},"modified":"2017-10-25T20:11:49","modified_gmt":"2017-10-25T20:11:49","slug":"death-trap-kumasi-storey-building-one-other-demolished","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/10\/death-trap-kumasi-storey-building-one-other-demolished\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Death-trap&#8217; Kumasi storey-building, one other demolished"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The three-storey building close to the Asafo interchange in Kumasi that was <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/10\/25\/investigations-begin-into-collapsing-kumasi-storey-building\/\">caving i<\/a><\/strong><\/span>n has been demolished along with a building next to it, which was found to be structurally compromised.<\/p>\n<p>Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Osei Assibey Antwi, directed that the building be pulled down after it was declared a danger zone by officials of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).<\/p>\n<p>Officers from the Ghana National Fire Service, NADMO, as well as the Police, responded to a distress call from traders who were in the collapsing structure on Wednesday Morning.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-365184\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/KMA-Kumasi-demolition-4.jpg\" alt=\"kma-kumasi-demolition-4\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0area around the collapsing building was cordoned off as hundreds watched the demolition from afar.<\/p>\n<p>There was grief and despair from the owners of the building, who watched soberly\u00a0as an excavator brought down their property.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Assibey Antwi also directed city engineers to conduct structural integrity tests of buildings within the metropolis to\u00a0identify and demolish those that pose a threat.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What they are going do are structural integrity tests so that is exactly what they will be doing and after that , they will submit their report to me&#8230; Based on the report, we will take a decision as to the next line of action,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-365185\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/KMA-Kumasi-demolition-1.jpg\" alt=\"kma-kumasi-demolition-1\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The first one was caving in from the front, but the second one was caving in from the back meaning the two were not solid and had to go.
