{"id":364956,"date":"2017-10-25T09:04:39","date_gmt":"2017-10-25T09:04:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=364956"},"modified":"2017-10-25T09:04:39","modified_gmt":"2017-10-25T09:04:39","slug":"govt-removes-la-presec-headmaster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/10\/govt-removes-la-presec-headmaster\/","title":{"rendered":"GES &#8216;removes&#8217; La PRESEC headmaster"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The government has effectively removed the headmaster of La PRESEC for reportedly opening up to the media over the lack of furniture in the school.<\/p>\n<p>The headmaster of the school, <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/09\/14\/la-presec-head-interdicted-over-illegal-fees-after-swerving-ges\/\">Samuel Salamat<\/a>,<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0is said to have been transferred to the\u00a0Curriculum Research\u00a0of Development Division (CRDD) at the Headquarters of the Ghana Education Service\u00a0(G.E.S) in Accra.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;BFgSB04x24E6MtrIF6BvxyznFfdqPGDA&#8221;]The transfer, an apparent punishment to Mr. Salamat, followed a stern warning issued to him by the Ministry of Education not to reveal challenges the school was being confronted with to the media.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Citi News<\/strong> in September 2017, reported that effective teaching and learning was being hampered at the La Presby Senior High School, as beneficiaries of government\u2019s Free Senior High School program were forced to study in uncompleted buildings without marker boards and desks.<\/p>\n<p>Students spent the day <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/10\/16\/free-shs-la-presby-students-study-on-cement-blocks\/\">seated on cement blocks and wooden boards<\/a><\/span>,\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>due to the absence of desks in the school.<\/p>\n<p>The situation, which was highlighted by the <strong>Citi News<\/strong>\u2019 Anass Seidu attracted the CEO of McDan Shipping Company, Daniel Makorley, to donate 100 desks as a first tranche of donations to improve the school\u2019s\u00a0 infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the donation, the headmaster of the school lamented that the donation was going to see him being reprimanded by the Ministry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>GH\u00a280 levy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The school was recently in the news for allegedly <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/09\/13\/pay-desk-fees-or-stand-in-class-la-presec-to-students\/\"><strong>levying fresh students<\/strong><\/a><\/span> about GHs 80, to purchase plastic chairs to be used by the students due to the deplorable state of the existing ones.<\/p>\n<p>The action generated public criticism with many accusing the headmaster, Samuel Salamat, of sabotaging the government\u2019s Free SHS policy, but when\u00a0<strong>Citi News<\/strong>\u00a0visited the school on Monday morning, the situation was indeed dire.<\/p>\n<p>The Headmaster, Samuel Salamat, was subsequently invited by Ministry of Education to explain circumstances that led to him demanding the levy from parents.<\/p>\n<p>He however continued to serve as the Headmaster of the school until he was transferred for allowing the media to cover issues in the school.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Jonas Nyabor\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The government has effectively removed the headmaster of La PRESEC for reportedly opening up to the media over the lack of furniture in the school.
