A labour<\/span> consultant, Austin Gamey has called on the National Tripartite Committee to focus on its mandate and ensure that a nationwide labour<\/span> protest does not occur again.<\/p>\n Organised<\/span> Labour<\/span>, on July 24, embarked on a nationwide demonstration to protest what they call the poor economic conditions in the country.<\/p>\n Various groups and associations, including the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Association joined in the protest a week ago.<\/p>\n However, speaking to Citi news<\/b>, Austin Gamey said that the protest could have been averted if the Tripartite Committee had focused on the job it was supposed to do.<\/p>\n \u201cThere was no tripartite meeting purposefully called to discuss economic issues of importance to all of us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cThe meetings that were called, discussed only the setting up of a national daily minimum wage\u2026 a microcosm of the things that are supposed to be discussed.\u201d<\/p>\n He believes that the Committee \u201cshould stay focused, in future, on the mandate that has been given to all of them.\u201d<\/p>\n Mr. Gamey however, admitted that some of the issues raised by the protesters were legitimate \u00a0and that the government is working to address them.<\/p>\n According to him, \u201ca Tripartite Committee meeting is being convened to enable them talk<\/span> about\u00a0 economic issues.\u201d<\/p>\n Mr. Gamey believes that \u201cthis is how the parties involved should have engaged [before the protest].\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI think it\u2019s a step in the right direction to address some of the concerns and with the involvement of all of them, that will be a solution, at least in part\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n By: Edwin Kwakofi\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" A labour consultant, Austin Gamey has called on the National Tripartite Committee to focus on its mandate and ensure that a nationwide labour protest does not occur again.
