{"id":363842,"date":"2017-10-21T13:07:27","date_gmt":"2017-10-21T13:07:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=363842"},"modified":"2017-10-21T13:07:27","modified_gmt":"2017-10-21T13:07:27","slug":"akufo-addo-others-bid-paapa-yankson-farewell-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/10\/akufo-addo-others-bid-paapa-yankson-farewell-photos\/","title":{"rendered":"Akufo-Addo, others bid Paapa Yankson farewell [Photos]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Nana Akufo-Addo on Saturday joined hundreds of Ghanaians at the forecourt of the State House in Accra, to pay their final respects to the late highlife legend, Paapa Yankson.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-363804 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Paapa-yankson-funeral-10-1.jpg\" alt=\"paapa-yankson-funeral-10\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Paapa Yankson passed away on July 21, 2017 after a\u00a0short illness aged 73.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-363787 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Paapa-yankson-funeral-32.jpg\" alt=\"paapa-yankson-funeral-32\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Others including the\u00a0Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Catherine Abelema Afeku, General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Asiedu Nketia, as well as a host of others from the showbiz industry were at the State House to mourn the beloved artiste.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-363809 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Paapa-yankson-funeral-15-1.jpg\" alt=\"paapa-yankson-funeral-15\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The mortal remains of Paapa Yankson will be taken to Apam in the Central Region for interment.<\/p>\n<p>Benjamin Paapa Kofi Yankson, known as Paapa Yankson, was a highlife singer, songwriter, and producer.<\/p>\n<p>He was born on June 22, 1944 at Winneba in the Central Region. His latent music flair was discovered at the funeral of a neighbour.<\/p>\n<p>He landed his first music contract during his mother&#8217;s funeral. And for more than 30 years Paapa Yankson has produced music that touched many Ghanaians.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-363792 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Paapa-yankson-funeral-37.jpg\" alt=\"paapa-yankson-funeral-37\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-363793 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Paapa-yankson-funeral-38.jpg\" alt=\"paapa-yankson-funeral-38\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" \/><br \/>\nHe has composed many hit songs some of which have attracted national awards and nomination for awards. In 1997 his composition, Yaaba won an award for Best Composition during the Komkomba Awards.<\/p>\n<p>His works, Wiase Mu Nsem, Show Your Love, Wo Yere Anaa Wo Maame, and Tena Menkyen are among his hit songs.<\/p>\n<p>Paapa Yankson has more than 15 albums to his credit, and so it was not surprising that some young hiplife artistes kept knocking at his door to feature him on their albums.<\/p>\n<p>He has taught and performed in many countries around the world including the US, Canada, Belgium, Britain, Germany, Holland, Nigeria, Benin and Cote d&#8217;Ivoire.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-363796 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Paapa-yankson-funeral-2.jpg\" alt=\"paapa-yankson-funeral-2\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Paapa\u2019s last major performance was at the Music of Ghanaian Origin Concert organized by<strong> Citi FM<\/strong> in March 2017, where he performed in a
