{"id":362660,"date":"2017-10-17T15:38:29","date_gmt":"2017-10-17T15:38:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=362660"},"modified":"2017-10-17T15:38:29","modified_gmt":"2017-10-17T15:38:29","slug":"name-corrupt-officials-govt-urges-prof-martey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/10\/name-corrupt-officials-govt-urges-prof-martey\/","title":{"rendered":"Name corrupt officials &#8211; Gov&#8217;t urges Prof. Martey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Government has urged the former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Professor Emmanuel Martey, to provide evidence of persons within Akufo-Addo administration who are corrupt.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Martey at a lecture in the Ashanti Region last week stated that, some\u00a0officials of the Akufo-Addo government, are already <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/10\/14\/nana-addos-appointees-showing-signs-of-corruption-rev-martey\/\">exhibiting signs of corruption<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and cautioned against such acts.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;c8Chub8hOtPFMpWU0xETphpCkOIBTO9A&#8221;]The man, who blatantly criticized officials of the erstwhile Mahama administration for being corrupt and having mismanaged the country, appears to be turning the heat on the Akufo-Addo administration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A large gov\u2019t means large corruption \u2013 Rev. Martey cautions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He cited the<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/10\/14\/a-large-govt-means-large-corruption-rev-martey-cautions\/\"> large size of the government<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, and called for a review, stating that it could lead to corruption.<\/p>\n<p>He cited the recent happenings at the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), and urged the President to ensure issues about corruption under his administration are dealt with.<\/p>\n<p>But the government wants him to name the individuals who are alleged to be engaged in the corrupt practices to enable it to take action against such individuals.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Information Minister, Mustapha Hamid, the government is committed to rooting out corruption especially among state officials, and appreciates information from the public to help it take action.<\/p>\n<p>He, however said such information must be based on specifics and should not be generalized.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a senior citizen of our country, we want to urge him to go beyond talking generalities to giving us concrete examples that we can put our hands on and make an example for people to be deterred. But if senior citizens should begin talking like that, that in our view is quite nebulous and feeds into the perception,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe welcome such comments, they are not comments that we want to attack or rebut, but we want to encourage senior citizens like that to speak up, but to speak more on specifics rather than generalities,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>President Nana Akufo-Addo was criticized for appointing 110 ministers to serve in his government, after previously assuring that he would ensure a prudent and efficient\u00a0government.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_361846\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-361846\" style=\"width: 620px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-361846\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Prof-Martey-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Reverend Professor Emmanuel Martey\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-361846\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Reverend Professor Emmanuel Martey<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The size of Akufo-Addo\u2019s government is considered one of the biggest in the country\u2019s history.<\/p>\n<p>The President said he created a number of special portfolios to serve at the Presidency because certain critical sectors needed \u201cadditional talents\u201d to ensure their success.<\/p>\n<p>He also responded to critics of his government size saying that the task of turning around Ghana\u2019s fortunes requited a large government to rise up to the many challenges.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Perceived corrupt cases under NPP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The NPP government has so far found itself in two cases of alleged corruption, with the recent one being the allegations of corruption against two deputy chiefs of staff, by musician and NPP sympathizer Kwame A-Plus, as well as the perceived corruption in the sale of contaminated fuel involving BOST.<\/p>\n<p>There has also been perceived corruption in\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/04\/20\/ameri-shouldnt-have-sponsored-addison-cttee-but-emile-short\/\">government\u2019s handling<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>of the Ameri Power Deal, in which the same firm that was being questioned over a supposed bloated contract, sponsored a committee from Ghana to Dubai to hold discussions with them.<\/p>\n<p>Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, was also\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/04\/18\/ken-ofori-atta-secured-2-25-bn-bond-for-cronies-minority\/\">accused of cronyism<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>by the minority in one of government\u2019s bond issue. Another major scandal, which many were unhappy with, was the allegations of corruption leveled against Boakye Agyarko, now Energy Minister during his vetting.<\/p>\n<p>He was accused by some minority MPs of\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/01\/28\/bribery-scandal-i-didnt-pay-minority-a-penny-agyarko\/\">seeking to bribe<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0them to enable him sail through his vetting with ease.
