{"id":359922,"date":"2017-10-07T19:48:04","date_gmt":"2017-10-07T19:48:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=359922"},"modified":"2017-10-07T19:48:04","modified_gmt":"2017-10-07T19:48:04","slug":"ghanaians-want-referee-banned-uganda-match-replayed-after-poor-calls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/10\/ghanaians-want-referee-banned-uganda-match-replayed-after-poor-calls\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghanaians want referee banned, Uganda match replayed after poor calls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ghana&#8217;s hopes of making a fourth consecutive World Cup suffered a blow when they were held to a goalless draw in Uganda.<\/p>\n<p>The draw meant that Egpyt are now one win away from securing qualification to next year&#8217;s world cup, ending Ghana&#8217;s almost obligatory appearance at the World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;46hR01NGYer9HGecgBCCBf1Fpk2gIEkC&#8221;]However, it wasn&#8217;t the Black Stars&#8217; poor performance that attracted the ire of Ghanaians, following the game, but that of South African referee Daniel Bennett and his assistants.<\/p>\n<p>Ghana had arguably two legitimate goals disallowed in each half,\u00a0including one at the very end of the game, and had a strong penalty appeal waved away by the referee.<\/p>\n<p>Amartey hit the back of the net with a powerful header in the first half, but had the goal ruled out for offside although replays suggested that he was onside.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Replays suggest Daniel Amartey was onside and the goal should have stood. Huge let off for Uganda <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/CitiSports?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#CitiSports<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/me60S6fbL7\">pic.twitter.com\/me60S6fbL7<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Citi Sports (@CitiSportsGHA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CitiSportsGHA\/status\/916666365578227712?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 7, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Acheampong was then bundled over by a defender in the box for a penalty\u00a0after the break, but the referee pointed for a goal-kick instead.<\/p>\n<p>And right at the end of the game, substitute Raphael Dwamena put the ball in the back of the net for what he thought was Ghana&#8217;s winner only to be denied by the linesman&#8217;s flag.<\/p>\n<p>That decision sparked a ruckus on the pitch as the Ghanaian players and coaches sought an explanation after the final whistle, seconds later, which has since, inevitably, spilt over onto social media.<\/p>\n<p>Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/10\/07\/furious-asamoah-gyan-demands-protest-over-black-stars-goal-snub\/\">called on the Ghana Football Association<\/a><\/strong> <\/span>to protest the conduct of the officials in a tweet after the game.<\/p>\n<p>Other Ghanaian football fans and football\u00a0journalists across the continent also vented their spleen at the match officials, with some calling for the match to be replayed, as had been ruled in the game between Senegal and South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the tweets in response to the refereeing calls in the game<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-cards=\"hidden\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Reason for the disallowed Goal?
