<\/a>The Coalition for Farmers Rights and Advocacy against GMOs (COFAM)) has served notice of marking Ghana\u2019s 57th Independence with a demonstration in Accra against attempts to introduce Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) into the country\u2019s food chain.<\/p>\nThe demonstration which is scheduled for March 6 is expected to draw massive support against the introduction of GMO\u2019s into the nation\u2019s food chain.<\/p>\n
A member of the Coalition, Ernesto Yeboah in an interview with Citi News called on Ghanaians to join the party to resist the move.<\/p>\n
The intended demonstration aimed at consolidating a similar crusade COFAM which is a combination of grass-roots movement of farmers, labour unions, religious, political and civil society organizations.<\/p>\n
COFAM in Accra on Tuesday January 28 held a public demonstration against attempts to introduce Genetically Modified Foods and the Plant Breeders Bill.<\/p>\n
Conveners of the COFAM include the Food Sovereignty Ghana, Convention Peoples Party, Centre for Indigenous Knowledge (CIKOD), The General Agricultural Workers Union of TUC and the Rastafarian Council.<\/p>\n
