The Electoral Commission has set August 4, 2014 as the new date to begin the Revision of the Voters Register.<\/p>\n
The EC registration exercise will allow Ghanaians who turned 18 after the 2012 general elections and adults who could not register during the previous registration exercises to register.<\/p>\n
\u201cApplicants are to note that only a Ghanaian Passport, a Driver\u2019s Licence<\/span>, a National Identification Card or an old voter ID card issued before the coming into force of C.<\/span>I<\/span> 72 will be accepted as means<\/span> of identification,\u2019\u2019 the EC said in a statement.<\/p>\n The Supreme Court on Wednesday unanimously granted a perpetual injunction restraining the Electoral Commission (EC) from using the National Health Insurance Card in its current form as an identity card for voter registrations.<\/p>\n The National Youth Organiser of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan, secured an injunction against the exercise which was scheduled for July 25, 2014.<\/p>\n Mr. Ramadan sued the EC over the use of the National Health Insurance (NHIS) Card as a proof of qualification to register.<\/p>\n Following the determination of the suit, \u201cThe Commission wishes to stress that by the Court\u2019s ruling<\/span> it will not accept the National Health Insurance Card as one of the identification documents\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n According to the EC persons who qualify to register but do not have the required \u2018\u2019identification documents\u2019\u2019 can register with two guarantors.<\/p>\n The registration exercise will start at 7:00am and close at 6:00pm daily at the designated electoral areas.<\/p>\n Below is the full statement signed by the\u00a0Deputy Chairman (OPERATIONS), Amadu Sulley<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n REVISION OF THE VOTERS REGISTER<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n Following the determination of the suit before the Supreme Court the Electoral Commission will now embark on the Revision of the Voters Register from Monday, 4th<\/span><\/sup><\/b> to<\/span> Wednesday 13th August<\/b>, 2014<\/b>.<\/p>\n Applicants are to note that only a Ghanaian Passport, a Driver\u2019s Licence<\/span>, a National Identification Card or an old voter ID card issued before the coming into force of C.<\/span>I<\/span> 72 will be accepted as means<\/span> of identification.<\/p>\n The Commission wishes to stress that by the Court\u2019s ruling<\/span> it will not accept the National Health Insurance Card as one of the identification documents.<\/p>\n Applicants are reminded that those who qualify to be registered but do not have any of the required identification documents may still have their registration guaranteed by two registered voters.<\/p>\n The registration will still take place at the designated centres<\/span> in every electoral area.<\/p>\n The exercise will start at 7:00am<\/b> and close at 6:00pm<\/b> each day.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n SGD<\/b><\/p>\n AMADU SULLEY<\/b><\/p>\n DEPUTY CHAIRMAN (OPERATIONS)<\/b><\/p>\n <\/p>\n By: Evans Effah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The Electoral Commission has set August 4, 2014 as the new date to begin the Revision of the Voters Register.
