{"id":354698,"date":"2017-09-19T13:42:09","date_gmt":"2017-09-19T13:42:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=354698"},"modified":"2017-11-10T11:18:35","modified_gmt":"2017-11-10T11:18:35","slug":"govt-officials-troop-to-value-woyomes-trasacco-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/09\/govt-officials-troop-to-value-woyomes-trasacco-home\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov&#8217;t officials troop to value Woyome&#8217;s Trasacco home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The government has begun the valuation of properties belonging to businessman Alfred Woyome, as it seeks to retrieve the GHc 51 million judgment debt wrongfully paid him.<\/p>\n<p>According\u00a0to sources at the Attorney General\u2019s office, some security personnel and officials from the Ghana Valuation Board, were sent to the Trasacco residence of Mr. Woyome to value the property.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;twMUl1qKAnAXOjORjt4sX1PLhD6LZApJ&#8221;]The source further indicated that the action is part of processes to furnish the Supreme Court with concrete evidence in the ongoing oral examination of Mr. Woyome, over his capability to refund the money.<\/p>\n<p>The state has been hounding Mr. Woyome since 2012, over the GHc51 million paid him in a default judgment in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>He\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/24\/ag-erred-dragging-me-to-court-for-oral-examination-woyome\/\">has appeared<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0to be orally examined by the Attorney General\u2019s office on issues pertaining to whether he owes any debts, whether he has property to satisfy the debt, and the manner in which he used the judgment debt money paid him, among other things.<\/p>\n<p>This appearance saw Mr. Woyome reveal he had been out of business since 2012, as he lost all his businesses after his arrest in 2011 and subsequent trial.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background to saga<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Woyome was paid the GHc 51 million after claiming he helped Ghana\u00a0raise funds to construct stadia for the hosting of the 2008 African Cup of Nations.<\/p>\n<p>However, an Auditor General\u2019s report released in 2010, held that the amount was paid illegally to him.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequently, the Supreme Court in 2014 ordered\u00a0Mr. Woyome to pay back the money, after Martin Amidu, challenged the legality of the payments.<\/p>\n<p>Following delays in retrieving the money, Supreme Court judges unanimously granted the Attorney General clearance to execute the court\u2019s judgment, ordering Mr. Woyome to refund the cash to the state.<\/p>\n<p>There had been previous attempts to orally examine Mr. Woyome, with\u00a0Mr. Amidu himself, in 2016, filing an application at the Supreme Court to find out how the businessman was going to pay back the money. This came after the Attorney General\u2019s office under the Mahama Administration, led by the former Minister for Justice, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/11\/02\/ag-discontinues-woyomes-ghc51m-judgement-debt-case\/\">discontinued a similar application<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>In February 2017 however, Mr. Amidu\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/02\/08\/amidu-withdraws-suit-to-examine-woyome\/\">withdrew his suit<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0seeking an oral examination, explaining that the change of government and the assurance by the new Attorney General to retrieve all judgment debts wrongfully paid to individuals, had given him renewed confidence in the system.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The government has begun the valuation of properties belonging to businessman Alfred Woyome, as it seeks to retrieve the GHc 51 million judgment debt wrongfully paid him.
