{"id":353068,"date":"2017-09-13T10:41:41","date_gmt":"2017-09-13T10:41:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=353068"},"modified":"2017-11-10T11:24:54","modified_gmt":"2017-11-10T11:24:54","slug":"nii-lantey-to-petition-nana-addo-over-old-parliament-demolition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/09\/nii-lantey-to-petition-nana-addo-over-old-parliament-demolition\/","title":{"rendered":"Nii Lante to petition Nana Addo over Old Parliament demolition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Member of Parliament for the Odododiodioo Constituency, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has indicated he may petition President Akufo-Addo over the demolition of portions of the <a href=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/09\/11\/mp-angry-over-demolition-of-historic-old-parliament-building\/\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>Old Parliament House<\/strong><\/span><\/a> in Accra.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the unilateral decision to pull down the structure was not in the best interest of the country.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;SI5ctb96uAmKitdbG5YHR3s9fZ4amUYP&#8221;]The legislator, in whose constituency the facility was located said he was surprised that the <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/09\/11\/old-parliament-house-demolition-necessary-although-illegal-chraj\/\"><strong>Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice<\/strong><\/a><\/span> did not consult him before taking the decision.<\/p>\n<p>Many Ghanaians on Monday awoke to the shocking news of the demolition of portions of the structure which housed the Gold Coast Legislative Assembly from 1951 when Dr. Kwame Nkrumah became the leader of Government Business under British rule.<\/p>\n<p>The former Minister for Youth and Sports said he has informed the Ga Traditional Council about the development, as well as the Minority caucus for\u00a0a plan to be fashioned out on the way forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am scandalized, annoyed and seriously outraged by this news. As a stakeholder, if any decision of the kind was to be taken, we should have been consulted at least. As a Member of Parliament for the area, at least I have a relationship with the old parliament house. I have decided to file a question to the Speaker when we resume Parliament to make sure that we bring before the house the people who did that to explain to us\u00a0who granted them the permission to carry out this demolition,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve informed the caucus and the Ga Traditional Council and if it demands that we file a petition to the office of the President and the Speaker of Parliament and any other important state organization, we will do that.
