Winnie Mandela is a complex and extraordinary woman and I&#8217;m honoured to be the actress asked to portray her,&#8221; Hudson said of her role. &#8220;This is a powerful part of history that should be told.&#8221; It was directed by award-winning film maker Darrell Roodt, whose films include Cry, The Beloved Country, Sarafina!, Yesterday. The screenplay, co-written by Roodt and Andr\u00e9 Pieterse, is based on the book Winnie Mandela: A Life, by Ann\u00e9 Mari\u00e8 du Preez Bezdrob, a former journalist. &#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The story of Winnie Mandela offers a unique perspective on the South African narrative.
