{"id":350952,"date":"2017-09-05T14:48:15","date_gmt":"2017-09-05T14:48:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=350952"},"modified":"2017-11-10T12:05:41","modified_gmt":"2017-11-10T12:05:41","slug":"whatsapp-is-killing-free-access-to-its-platform-for-business-users","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/09\/whatsapp-is-killing-free-access-to-its-platform-for-business-users\/","title":{"rendered":"WhatsApp is killing free access to its platform for business users"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Facebook is finally looking into cashing in on WhatsApp\u2019s massive $22 billion acquisition deal.<\/p>\n<p>The Facebook-owned messaging service is planning to eventually start invoicing companies for recently introduced features that help bridge the gap between businesses and consumers, WhatsApp COO Matt Idema told Fox Business.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to put a basic foundation in place to allow people to message businesses and for them to get the responses that they want,\u201d Idema said. \u201cWe do intend on charging businesses in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Unlike Messenger which relies on advertising revenue, WhatsApps monetization model will involve streamlined communication features for fielding customer enquiries and sending out updates to followers. To help users tell apart businesses and individuals, the company is also rolling out dedicated verification badges.<\/p>\n<p>Still, it is worth noting that Idema doesn\u2019t entirely rule out the possibility WhatsApp could one day display ads.<\/p>\n<p>The good thing is that, in order to contact customers, companies will have to receive an approval from the user. A spokesperson for the company has since clarified that the feature will work on opt-in basis.<\/p>\n<p>Companies in Europe, Brazil, India and Indonesia are already running trials with the features, according to reports.
