{"id":348229,"date":"2017-08-26T13:20:41","date_gmt":"2017-08-26T13:20:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=348229"},"modified":"2017-11-10T14:47:02","modified_gmt":"2017-11-10T14:47:02","slug":"govt-has-ended-era-of-reckless-borrowing-bawumia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/08\/govt-has-ended-era-of-reckless-borrowing-bawumia\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov\u2019t has ended era of reckless borrowing &#8211; Bawumia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has said that the government moved the economy beyond the era of <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>\u2018<a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/08\/15\/well-continue-borrowing-responsibly-bawumia\/\">reckless borrowin<\/a><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/08\/15\/well-continue-borrowing-responsibly-bawumia\/\">g<\/a>\u2019.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>He said the country\u2019s economy was positively responding to the New Patriotic Party (NPP)\u2019s policies.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the governing New Patriotic Party\u2019s delegates conference in the Central Region on Saturday, <a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/08\/18\/bawumia-never-promised-not-to-borrow-veeps-office\/\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>Dr. Bawumia<\/strong><\/span><\/a> said the NPP has already begun implementing most of its promised economic program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the 8 years of the NDC economic management, how many taxes did they reduce? We promised to restore macroeconomic stability and we have done that in just 7 months&#8230;.The era of reckless borrowing which increased our debt to GDP ratio from 32% at the end of 2008 to 73% at the end of 2016 and placed a huge burden on this country, thankfully is over,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Bawumia added that, \u201cwe promised to reduce taxes and move economic management from a focus on taxation to a focus on production and we have delivered on this promise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Vice President, who was a great critic of the previous government\u2019s economic undertakings gave the assurance that the NPP will ensure that the economic prosperity is enjoyed by all Ghanaians in the country.<\/p>\n<p>He said the government is keen on introducing a number of social intervention programs \u00a0to improve the welfare of Ghanaians.<\/p>\n<p>He said the government is looking to create avenues that will ensure the creation of job opportunities for the country&#8217;s\u00a0youth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Put NPP members first in gov\u2019t programs \u2013 Freddy Blay<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the acting National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay has urged the president, Nana Akufo-Addo to <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/08\/26\/put-npp-members-first-in-govt-programs-freddy-blay-to-nana-addo\/\"><strong>prioritize loyalists<\/strong><\/a><\/span> of the NPP in the government\u2019s programs.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, it is \u201conly fair that those who worked for the government to be in power\u201d to be first time beneficiaries of the government\u2019s policy programs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Jonas Nyabor\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has said that the government moved the economy beyond the era of \u2018reckless borrowing\u2019.
