French President Emmanuel Macron spent \u20ac26,000 on makeup in his first three months as leader of the country, Le Point magazine\u00a0reported\u00a0Thursday.<\/p>\n
According to the report, Macron\u2019s personal makeup artist put in two claims for payment, one for \u20ac10,000 and another for \u20ac16,000, for doing his makeup during his travels and ahead of press conferences.<\/p>\n
The Elys\u00e9e Palace said in response: \u201cWe called in a contractor as a matter of urgency.\u201d<\/p>\n
Aides said that spending on makeup would be \u201csignificantly reduced\u201d in future, Le Point reported, adding that the amount spent is less than under Macron\u2019s predecessors.<\/p>\n
His predecessor, Fran\u00e7ois Hollande, spent \u20ac30,000 per quarter\u00a0on makeup, including the salary of a makeup artist.\u00a0In addition, Hollande paid\u00a0his hairdresser\u00a0a gross salary of \u20ac9,895 a month.<\/p>\n
Nicolas Sarkozy spent slightly less on his makeup than Macron \u2014 \u20ac8,000 a month.<\/p>\n
The news comes as Macron\u2019s popularity is falling, according to opinion polls.\u00a0Only 37 percent of voters\u00a0approve\u00a0of the job Macron is doing, down from a high of 57 percent after his election in May.<\/p>\n
