Team Ghana took part in a series of events on Day 3 of the 2014 Commonwealth Games but good not record a lot of positive results.<\/p>\n

BOXING<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jesse Lartey gained passage to the next round of the men’s lightweight competition after he gained a walkover in his bout with Tanzania’s Nassar Mafuru Mafuru.<\/p>\n

But Musah Lwason could not get through in the men’s lightwelter weight as he lost to Canada’s Arthur Biyarslanov 29-28 in all three rounds of the fight.<\/p>\n

TABLE TENNIS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Both the men’s and women’s team played in the team classification semi-finals after missing out on the main quarter finals.<\/p>\n

However, the female team could not go further as they lost by 3 matches to zero against Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n

Berenice Borquaye and Celia Baah-Danso lost Hannah Lynch-Dawson and Amanda Mogey in the doubles while Celia Baah-Danso and Cynthia Kwabi lost to Ashley Given and Amanda Mogey respectively.<\/p>\n

The male team had better fortunes as they beat Jamaica 3 matches in their classification semi-finals.<\/p>\n

Derek Abrefa and Felix Lartey beat Dale Parham and Kane Watson while Emmanuel Commey beat Parham in the singles match. However, Commey could not repeat the trick against Simon Tomlinson to give the Jamaicans their only victory in the series.<\/p>\n

Felix Lartey pushed Ghana to the classification final by beating Kane Watson in the other singles match.<\/p>\n

Ghana will face Trinidad and Tobago in the men’s classification final on the 27th of July.<\/p>\n

JUDO<\/strong><\/p>\n

Victor Ahiavor and Raymond Normeshie could not add to Razak Abugri’s bronze medal due to losses in their respective group encounters.<\/p>\n

Ahiavor lost to Stephane ombiongo of Cameroon and Normeshie was not successful against Sahil Pathania of India.<\/p>\n

SWIMMING<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ophelia Swayne came sixth in heat 3 of the women’s 50m butterfly in a time of 29.66 seconds while Abbiw Jackson was fourth in his 100m men’s freestyle heat in a time of 56.47 seconds.<\/p>\n

Abeiku Jackson was also not fortunate as he finished third in the third heat of\u00a0the men’s 100m freestyle. He recorded a time of 56.47 seconds.<\/p>\n

Swayne, however, broke her national record and has set a new one with the time in the heats.<\/p>\n

Nana Kwabena Antwi was due to take part in the second heat of the men’s 100m freestyle but he did not start the race for unknown reasons.<\/p>\n

Abeiku will take part in the men’s 100m butterfly\u00a0on the 27th of July, 2014 and Kweku Addo will also take to the pool\u00a0 in the fourth heat of the men’s 50m freestyle event.<\/p>\n

WEIGHT LIFTING (FROM DAY 2)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ruth Baffoe was 11th in the women’s 53kg event held on the 25th of July. The gold medal went to Chika Amalaha of Nigeria.<\/p>\n

Daniel Darko was also not too successful as he finished 17th in the Men’s 62 kg class. That even was won by Dimitris Minasidis of Cyprus.<\/p>\n

BADMINTON (FROM DAY 1)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ghana’s badminton run began with the mixed team group play event but team could not make it through despite winning two of the three matches.<\/p>\n

The team lost lost its first match to India by 5 matches to zero.<\/p>\n

Daniel Sam lost the first match to Kashyap Parupalli, Stella Amasah lost the second to Vindu Pursala, Emmanuel Donkor and Abraham Ayittey lost the third match which was the\u00a0men’s doubles match to Akshay Dewalkar and Pranaav Chopra.<\/p>\n

Diana Archer and Evelyn Botwe lost Ghana’s fourth match in the series to Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa in the women’s doubles.<\/p>\n

The fifth match was contested\u00a0between Daniel Sam and Stella Amasah and Srikanth Kidambi and P.C. Thulasi and the Ghanaians lost in two sets.<\/p>\n

Ghana made amends in their second match by beating Uganda 3 matches to 2.<\/p>\n

Daniel Sam and Stella Amasah beat Wilson Tukire and Margaret Nankabirwa in the first match but the second match went to Uganda whose Edwin Ekiring beat Emmanuel Donkor.<\/p>\n

Daist Nakalyango beat Evelyn Botwe in the third match but Sam and Donkor won the fourth match for Ghana and Botwe and Amasah beat Nakalyango and Nankabirwa.<\/p>\n

Ghana beat Kenya in the third group match but they could not qualify from the group.<\/p>\n

The team members will be participating in the singles and doubles and mixed doubles events starting on the 29th of July, 2014.<\/p>\n
