The Executive Director of IMANI Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe has urged the President to merge redundant Ministries to reduce government expenditure.

He commended the President for merging the Information and Media Relations Ministry with the Ministry of Communications.

“Kudos to the President; I think he began the way to show that something good will come out of his legacy that is collapsing the Information Ministry; in fact, the propaganda Ministry.”

President John Mahama in his final ministerial reshuffle merged the two Ministries; a decision which was widely accepted by the general public.

But the IMANI boss on Citi FM’s The Big Issue pointed out that there are more Ministries which should be collapsed and merged with others.

This he said, will cut down on government’s spending and also increase efficiency.

He mentioned the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture should be merged with the Ministry of Tourism “because these are supposed to be indicators of our touristic values so chieftaincy should not stand alone.”

The Ministry of Forestry and the Ministry of Science and Technology should also be merged.

“This is not a big country so you don’t need this gazillion number of people running around freely to do stuff,” he fumed.

He questioned why the Transport Ministry is “standing alone and why should something transport stand alone? It should be merged with Ministry of Roads and Highways.”

Mr. Cudjoe further suggested that the Ministry of Youth and Sports should be merged with the Ministry of Employment.

He urged the government to “begin to do things that will make people believe that there is confidence in the economy. It’s not just looking at the numbers.”
