The Vice President, Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has tasked public sector workers to justify the continuous implementation of the single spine pay policy based on level of their productivity.<\/p>\n
He said government will continue to demand a reciprocal gesture on behalf of the taxpayers to commensurate increase in productivity and performance.<\/p>\n
Addressing senior public service officers at a conference in Kumasi, the Vice President said government will continue to resource Ministries, Departments and Agencies to enable them to work to realize the aspirations of Ghanaians.<\/p>\n
The three-day conference is focusing on renewing the face of the public services for high performance.<\/p>\n
Vice President Amissah-Arthur advised that the focus of the conference should be based on serious reflections so as not to let Ghanaians down.<\/p>\n
According to him, Ghana must have an innovative capacity to address the various challenges \u201cof a changing socio-economic environment.\u201d<\/p>\n
The therefore charged the Ghana Public Service amidst its complexities, \u201cto support the government to anticipate these external problems and how they impact on us and how we respond to these challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Vice President mentioned that Ghana\u2019s public sector must adopt a new organizational culture and the total eradication of outmoded practices and beliefs of employees to boost performance.<\/p>\n
Mr. Amissah-Arthur said there is the need to generate innovative policies and programmes to address the inequalities in the country.<\/p>\n
He noted that achieving middle income status as a nation is a positive development because \u201cit vindicates the accumulation of growth strategies that have been adopted in this country since independence.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to him, a lot of reforms and investments have taken place regarding infrastructure which has contributed to a significant reduction in poverty \u201chowever, a lot still remains to be done.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Chairperson of the Public Services Commission, Mrs Bridget Katsriku urged the heads to begin to re-examine the mission and vision of their organizations with a view to realign them to current realities.<\/p>\n
She asked them to also seek to do things differently, efficiently and effectively.<\/p>\n
The former Rector of GIMPA, Prof Stephen Adei urged Ghanaians to exercise restraint to avoid social unrest so that in a judgment put heads together to get the country out of its current challenges.<\/p>\n
