The Ministry of Education says arrears for capitation grants for basic schools will be released soon.<\/p>\n
The Ministry says the grants have currently been paid into the Ghana Education Service (GES) for onward release to the various schools.<\/p>\n
The Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) expressed concern about the delay in the release of capitation grants to the schools for the 2013\/2014 academic year.<\/p>\n
The heads of schools \u00a0explained that they depend on the capitation grant to undertake key educational activities and to purchase teaching and learning materials.<\/p>\n
Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education, Paul Krampah in an interview with Citi News said his outfit will ensure all outstanding amounts are paid to the various schools to facilitate effective teaching and learning.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Bank of Ghana has been instructed by the Control and Accountants General to pay so immediately the money reaches the account of the GES; they will just send it to them [the basic schools],\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The capitation grant is a social intervention policy aimed at providing quality, affordable education for all.<\/p>\n
