{"id":345162,"date":"2017-08-15T18:55:43","date_gmt":"2017-08-15T18:55:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=345162"},"modified":"2017-08-15T18:55:43","modified_gmt":"2017-08-15T18:55:43","slug":"theres-substantial-demand-for-new-regions-council-of-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/08\/theres-substantial-demand-for-new-regions-council-of-state\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018There\u2019s substantial demand for new regions\u2019 \u2013 Council of State"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Council of State has, unanimously, informed the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, that there is a substantial demand for the creation of new regions.<\/p>\n<p>The Council has, therefore, advised President Akufo-Addo to appoint a Commission of Enquiry \u201cto inquire into the need and to make recommendations on all the factors involved in the creation of the new regions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-345163 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/President-Akufo-Addo-responds-to-remarks-by-Nana-Otuo-Siriboe.jpg\" alt=\"president-akufo-addo-responds-to-remarks-by-nana-otuo-siriboe\" width=\"768\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Nana Otuo Siriboe II made this known on Tuesday, 15<sup>th<\/sup> August, 2017, when the Council of State held its 2<sup>nd<\/sup> meeting with the President of the Republic, at the Flagstaff House after studying the petitions for the creation of new regions which were forwarded to the Council.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Chairperson, the Council of State, on the 29<sup>th<\/sup> of June, received a communication from the President seeking the Council\u2019s advice on the creation of new regions, as stipulated in the Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>The communication, he said, contained copies of the petitions from the Chiefs and people of the Western, Northern, Brong-Ahafo and Volta Regions \u201cfrom where the demands from the creation of new regions had been the most vociferous\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-345166 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Minister-for-Regional-Reorientation-Dan-Botwe.jpg\" alt=\"minister-for-regional-reorientation-dan-botwe\" width=\"768\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This was after members meticulously went \u00a0through the petitions, which the Chairperson of the Council of State stated, was accompanied by maps and statistical data.<\/p>\n<p>The Council was also briefed by the Minister for Regional Reorganization and Development, Dan Kwaku Botwe, on his interactions with the Chiefs and people of the four regions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Minister did impress the Council with the elaborate home work he has done on this exercise including the extensive literature review on Ghana\u2019s geo-political structure,\u201d Nana Otuo Sriboe II said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that \u201chaving studied the petitions submitted and the detailed briefing by the Hon.
