{"id":344226,"date":"2017-08-12T07:34:41","date_gmt":"2017-08-12T07:34:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=344226"},"modified":"2017-08-12T07:34:41","modified_gmt":"2017-08-12T07:34:41","slug":"hajj-2017-first-batch-finally-leaves-ghana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/08\/hajj-2017-first-batch-finally-leaves-ghana\/","title":{"rendered":"Hajj 2017: First batch finally leaves Ghana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first batch of Ghanaian Pilgrims for the 2017 Hajj pilgrimage have finally left the Tamale Airport for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n<p>Four hundred and thirty out of 506 were airlifted to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Friday after the first flight scheduled for Thursday August 10 failed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-344230 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/hajj-pilgrims-2017-1.jpg\" alt=\"hajj-pilgrims-2017-1\" width=\"684\" height=\"559\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Background<\/strong><br \/>\nVice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia under whose supervision the National Hajj Board operates at a pre-departure Durbar in Tamale touted the 2017 Hajj activities organization as unique.<\/p>\n<p>He boasted that government had paid off the accumulated debt piled by the previous Hajj Board.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, 425 fully paid pilgrims could not make it to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia yet their monies were not refunded.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-344227 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/hajj-pilgrims-2017-2.jpg\" alt=\"hajj-pilgrims-2017-2\" width=\"607\" height=\"808\" \/><br \/>\nHe said government out of sympathy paid for them to join this year\u2019s batch of prospective pilgrims to the Holy Land of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n<p>He urged the Pilgrims to serve as good Ambassadors of Ghana by complying with the rules of engagement by the host nation.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately the first batch scheduled flight for 8:30 pm Thursday August 10 failed.<\/p>\n<p>The over 500 pilgrims were stranded at the Tamale Sports Stadium where the Tamale Hajj Village is relocated.<\/p>\n<p>The Vice President later apologized and reassured them of a successful trip to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia without a definite timeline.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, they finally left the shores of Ghana for Madina at 10 pm, Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>Five flights have been scheduled to fly direct from the Tamale Airport to the Saudi Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-344229 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/hajj-pilgrims-2017-4.jpg\" alt=\"hajj-pilgrims-2017-4\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Critics of the current I.C Quaye led National Hajj Board accused the administration of poor organization.<\/p>\n<p>They extolled the previous Board led by the incumbent Member of Parliament for Yagaba-Kubori constituency, Abdul Rauf Ibrahim Tanko for leaving a remarkable footprint which the current Board failed to improve.<\/p>\n<p>They thus called for a complete overhaul of the National Hajj Board to avert future embarrassments.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Abdul Karim Naatogmah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p>Photo credit:\u00a0Abass Abubakari<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first batch of Ghanaian Pilgrims for the 2017 Hajj pilgrimage have finally left the Tamale Airport for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
