{"id":340813,"date":"2017-07-31T11:36:20","date_gmt":"2017-07-31T11:36:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=340813"},"modified":"2017-07-31T11:36:20","modified_gmt":"2017-07-31T11:36:20","slug":"dont-dare-anti-galamsey-soldiers-nitiwul-warns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/dont-dare-anti-galamsey-soldiers-nitiwul-warns\/","title":{"rendered":"Don\u2019t dare anti-galamsey soldiers \u2013 Nitiwul warns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Defence Minister, <a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/05\/20\/galamsey-fight-well-deploy-military-if-necessary-nitiwul\/\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>Dominic Nitiwul<\/strong><\/span><\/a> has cautioned Ghanaians to refrain from daring the joint police and military <a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/31\/military-storms-galamsey-areas-in-special-enforcement-operation\/\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>anti-galamsey task force<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0deployed to enforce the country\u2019s laws against the illegal activity.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cit will not be in your interest to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;mw1c6kr0tMkqdEp30aMuwZ3ZAilTSotf&#8221;]The joint team is expected to clamp down on the illegal activity in the Ashanti, Eastern and Western Regions.<\/p>\n<p>Dominic Nitiwul in an address at the launch of the anti-galamsey operation coded \u201coperation vanguard\u201d said the state was behind the task force hence the team must not be challenged.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will make it straight to the people who are daring the task force not to do that because the country is behind the task force. Don\u2019t dare them. It will not be in your interest to dare them\u2026 They will do everything and anything to make this mission a success,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister lamented that illegal mining has destroyed many water bodies in the country and lands meant for farming and must not be allowed to continue.<\/p>\n<p>He added that previous efforts at addressing the problem involved troops sent on a few day&#8217;s mission but the &#8220;operation vanguard&#8221; are to stay in the affected arrears and execute the charge to the letter.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I hope that when we tell this story, it will be a story of success&#8230;You are being tasked to go and stay and stop this. I know that the men and the women of the <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/31\/military-to-deploy-soldiers-to-protect-mines-against-galamsey-today\/\"><strong>Ghana Armed Forces<\/strong><\/a><\/span> are professional, and the men and women of the Ghana Police Service are professional and you will do a professional job&#8230; We believe that this group will stop illegal mining and stop it forever.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The deployment of the joint military and police team is another major step in the fight against the illegal activity that has become of great concern to many Ghanaians.<\/p>\n<p>Many have expressed the belief that the involvement of the military in stopping illegal mining popularly known as galamsey, will achieve more results and ultimately help stop the menace across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Dominic Nitiwul has in the past expressed his desire to authorize the deployment of military personnel to stop the activity.<\/p>\n<p>He said at the launch of the operation that the government will provide all the necessary resources to ensure that the team succeeds in the operation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Jonas Nyabor\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul has cautioned Ghanaians to refrain from daring the joint police and military anti-galamsey task force\u00a0deployed to enforce the country\u2019s laws against the illegal activity.
