{"id":339523,"date":"2017-07-26T18:08:15","date_gmt":"2017-07-26T18:08:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=339523"},"modified":"2017-07-26T18:08:15","modified_gmt":"2017-07-26T18:08:15","slug":"cash-from-voter-id-replacements-intact-charlotte-osei","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/cash-from-voter-id-replacements-intact-charlotte-osei\/","title":{"rendered":"Cash from voter ID replacements intact \u2013 Charlotte Osei"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/26\/charlotte-osei-to-account-for-election-accreditation-fees-in-parliament-today\/\"><strong>Charlotte Osei<\/strong><\/a><\/span> has said that that commission has not expended monies it accrued from the replacement of voter IDs for Ghanaians ahead of the 2016 December elections.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, the EC made over GH\u00a22.5 million from the replacement process and more than GH\u00a242,000 cedis from the sale of media accreditation cards.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;mcfWNEzoLjBvleCenBO9J8rdXseZriPq&#8221;]Answering an urgent question filed by the Member of Parliament for Subin, Eugene Antwi\u00a0on how much the Commission accrued from the process and how it was spent, Charlotte Osei said all monies were currently in the Commission\u2019s account at GCB Bank.<\/p>\n<p>Despite her admission of the gains of the commission, she admitted that, the information was not included in the EC\u2019s financial statement submitted to the government claiming it was an \u201coversight\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have opened an account with the Ghana Commercial Bank and all monies we charged for the replacement of lost ID cards went into that account\u2026 We have not expended any of that,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission charged \u00a210 from journalists for media accreditation to cover the elections and \u00a25 for replacement of lost voter\u2019s ID cards.<\/p>\n<p>Charlotte Osei told Parliament that \u201cin sum, we had 4,271 applications from journalists for accreditations. The printer charged GHs8 exclusive of VAT and NHIL cost. In total from media houses, we collected GH\u00a242,710. We paid to the printer and paid to out 42,713.60 to the printer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Subin legislator has suggested that the answers given the EC chairperson were unsatisfactory.<\/p>\n<p>He lamented that the fracas between Charlotte Osei and her <a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/26\/akufo-addo-refers-petition-against-charlotte-osei-to-cj\/\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>deputy commissioners<\/strong><\/span><\/a> spells doom for the country\u2019s election management body<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe said that this is her personal explanation. The buck stops with her.
