{"id":339122,"date":"2017-07-25T11:36:58","date_gmt":"2017-07-25T11:36:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=339122"},"modified":"2017-07-25T11:36:58","modified_gmt":"2017-07-25T11:36:58","slug":"ec-must-be-probed-immediately-peace-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/ec-must-be-probed-immediately-peace-council\/","title":{"rendered":"EC must be probed immediately &#8211; Peace Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Peace Council has now called for a probe into the allegations surfacing at the Electoral Commission as a result of a public dispute between the EC Chairperson, Charlotte Osei, and her two deputies.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the <strong>Citi Breakfast Show<\/strong>, Chairman of the Council, Professor Emmanuel Asante, who had earlier <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/21\/ec-confusion-peace-council-calls-for-internal-dialogue\/\">called for an internal arbitration process<\/a><\/strong><\/span> to resolve the dispute, is now saying \u201cat this stage, allow due process to work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;FgNKUGuxkSK556lFKtckghGvtMXOXC1f&#8221;]He noted that the accusations being brought to the fore &#8220;now bordered in criminality&#8221; hence the change in stance.<\/p>\n<p>But in the mean time, Prof Asante still called for an end to\u00a0the war of words between key parties within the EC, the most recent being more <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/25\/ec-boss-allegations-figment-of-her-imagination-opoku-amakwah\/\">accusations and assertions<\/a><\/strong><\/span> being touted by\u00a0the deputy Chairperson of the Commission in-charge of Corporate Services, Georgina Opoku Amankwah.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Consider integrity of EC<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Regardless of the conclusion of the investigation, he reminded that the reputation of the EC was still being tainted by the\u00a0accusations\u00a0flying around in the public domain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy humble submission to the commissioners and also to the staff members is to think about the image of the institution because the Electoral Commission is very crucial when it comes to the democratic governance of our nation and any erosion of confidence of the electoral commission is going to have negative effects on our future elections and the work they do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo they should think ahead as they trade accusations and counter accusations and in an attempt to justify and redeem their own image, they should also think far\u2026 they have said enough and they should allow due process to take place,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Tensions at the EC were dragged into the public domain after some employees of Commission\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/19\/ec-staff-petition-nana-addo-to-sack-charlotte-osei\/\">petitioned<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0President Nana Akufo-Addo to remove Charlotte Osei from office for\u00a0alleged financial malfeasance.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Osei\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/23\/amadu-sulley-illegally-took-ghc-6m-from-parties-charlotte-osei\/\">rubbished the allegations<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0and fired some of her own,\u00a0accusing her deputies of various forms of malfeasance.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Osei also said she would order investigations into the alleged malpractices.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Peace Council has now called for a probe into the allegations surfacing at the Electoral Commission as a result of a public dispute between the EC Chairperson, Charlotte Osei, and her two deputies.
