{"id":338535,"date":"2017-07-22T15:42:50","date_gmt":"2017-07-22T15:42:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=338535"},"modified":"2017-07-22T15:42:50","modified_gmt":"2017-07-22T15:42:50","slug":"old-fadama-parts-of-onion-market-in-flames","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/old-fadama-parts-of-onion-market-in-flames\/","title":{"rendered":"Old Fadama: Parts of Onion Market in flames"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fire has gutted some parts of the Onion Market at Old Fadama in Accra.<\/p>\n<p>According to <strong>Citi News&#8217;<\/strong> Kojo Agyeman who was at the scene, the<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>fire started around 1pm<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>and is<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>currently raging towards other parts of the market, which is located behind the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/20170722_131805.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-338547\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/20170722_131805.jpg\" alt=\"20170722_131805\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is believed that the blaze was started by a scrap dealer who was improperly disposing of some scrap metals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/20170722_131802.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-338546\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/20170722_131802.jpg\" alt=\"20170722_131802\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The refuse contains so many combustible materials like scraps from fridges and computers that it&#8217;s spreading much quicker than it normally would,&#8221; he reported.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/20170722_131730.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-338544\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/20170722_131730.jpg\" alt=\"20170722_131730\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are some mechanic shops behind the ICGC that might be affected,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>An eyewitness stated that despite attempts by some youth to douse the flames, their efforts were hindered by the large amounts of refuse that were present.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/20170722_131621.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-338537\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/20170722_131621.jpg\" alt=\"20170722_131621\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We saw the fire far away from the Church. I asked the boys who started it but they said they didn&#8217;t know who did.
