{"id":338458,"date":"2017-07-22T07:40:59","date_gmt":"2017-07-22T07:40:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=338458"},"modified":"2017-07-22T07:40:59","modified_gmt":"2017-07-22T07:40:59","slug":"prof-aryeetey-honoured-for-contribution-to-african-economies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/prof-aryeetey-honoured-for-contribution-to-african-economies\/","title":{"rendered":"Prof. Aryeetey honoured for contribution to African economies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Prof. Ernest Aryeetey, former Vice-Chancellor has received an honorary doctorate degree (Degree of Doctor of the University honoris causa) from University of Sussex at a Congregation ceremony which took place this week.<\/p>\n<p>The award is in recognition of his contribution to the study of African Economies.<\/p>\n<p>A Professor of Economics, Ernest Aryeetey became Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana in 2010, ending his tenure at the end of July 2016.\u00a0\u00a0 He is currently the Secretary-General of the continental research body, African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-338460\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Ernest-Aryeetey.jpg\" alt=\"ernest-aryeetey\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Previously he was Director of the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research of the University of Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Ernest Aryeetey\u2019s research focuses on the economics of development with interest in institutions and their role in development, regional integration, economic reforms, financial systems in support of development and small enterprise development.<\/p>\n<p>He is well known for his work on informal finance and microfinance in Africa.\u00a0 He has consulted for and advises a broad range of international agencies.\u00a0 Prof. Aryeetey has published three books, seven edited volumes, and numerous journal articles.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-338459\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Ernest-Aryeetey-1.jpg\" alt=\"ernest-aryeetey-1\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Among his publications are\u00a0<em>Financial Integration and Development in Sub-Saharan Africa and Economic Reforms in Ghana:\u00a0 the Miracle and the Mirage<\/em>.\u00a0 He directed the Brookings Africa Growth Initiative (2009-10) and continues as a non-resident Senior Fellow at Brookings.<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Aryeetey has held academic appointments at University of London, Yale, Cornell and Swarthmore.\u00a0 He obtained a doctorate for his work in Political Economy from the University of Dortmund, Germany in 1985.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Source: UG<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prof. Ernest Aryeetey, former Vice-Chancellor has received an honorary doctorate degree (Degree of Doctor of the University honoris causa) from University of Sussex at a Congregation ceremony which took place this week.
