The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations is hoping to operationalize a new system to track and provide labour data in the country before the end of 2017.

The program dubbed the Ghana Labour Market Information System (GLMIS) the program will serve as a resourceful hub for job seekers as well as provide government with data in decision making.

[contextly_sidebar id=”KgGwBGR6X2WQNe214gp5r8rJjb2SpyvA”]“We were supposed to have launched it quite earlier. But because of change of government things have been flat a bit, hopefully by end of year the GLMIS should be functional… and this will be sent across all the regions in Ghana,” Deputy Employment Minister, Bright Wireko Brobbey said on the Citi Breakfast Show on Thursday.

The Deputy Minister made the remark on the back of several commitments made by to propel the establishment and revival of private sector led initiatives aimed at creating the much needed jobs for the teeming unemployed Ghanaians to kick start an industrial revolution in the country.

The Akufo-Addo government is hoping to raise over $2.5 billion for its flagship social intervention programmes such as the into the one-district one-factory , the National Entrepreneurship and Innovations Plan (NEIP), one-million one-constituency, among others.

According to Mr. Brobbey, the program will factor into its system persons who benefit from such government initiatives.

He also explained that the labour marketing system will also rely on the labour agencies in the various regions for data.

“What is going to happen is that information on people looking for jobs, availability of jobs from the various sector ministries will all be centralized and keep in so as and when people go in to access and have placements this is able to track. And then we are also able to generate and synchronize and be able to tell the general public how many jobs we are providing within a period of time,” he added.
