{"id":336444,"date":"2017-07-14T13:34:09","date_gmt":"2017-07-14T13:34:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=336444"},"modified":"2017-11-14T17:15:56","modified_gmt":"2017-11-14T17:15:56","slug":"scores-of-llb-graduates-turn-up-for-law-school-entrance-exams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/scores-of-llb-graduates-turn-up-for-law-school-entrance-exams\/","title":{"rendered":"Scores of LLB graduates turn up for Law School entrance exams"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Scores of LLB graduates on Friday turned up at the University of Ghana campus to write this year\u2019s law school entrance exam despite last minute attempts to halt the exercise.<\/p>\n<p>The exam took place at the University of Ghana Legon.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-336466 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/LLB-graduates-3.jpg\" alt=\"llb-graduates-3\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Following a <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/13\/court-throws-out-injunction-against-law-school-entrance-exam\/\"><strong>dismissal<\/strong><\/a><\/span> of an earlier suit seeking an injunction on the exams, some students filed another process aimed at stopping the exercise this morning [Friday].<\/p>\n<p>Some students who earlier spoke to <strong>Citi News<\/strong> complained about the two hour paper.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-336447 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/ghana-school-of-law.jpg\" alt=\"ghana-school-of-law\" width=\"768\" height=\"433\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn terms of preparation, we have done our part and looking at the way the examination is structured I doubt if anybody will be able to tell you that he\u2019s been able to go through everything. Just a two hour paper but you\u2019d have to read nine courses and each of the courses at the LLB level is a one full year course so you can imagine, it\u2019s a herculean task for us. We are here because we have to come today,\u201d one LLB graduate said.<\/p>\n<p>Another one also complained that: \u201chow can study something for four good years and they are going to use two hours to access you. Even the cases in though one alone, you can\u2019t use three or six months to study all those things. So it looks as if you have to find a way of coming out.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-336467 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/LLB-graduates-4.jpg\" alt=\"llb-graduates-4\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Supreme Court order<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The High Court\u2019s ruling comes on the back of a judgement by the Supreme Court on June 22, 2017 which declared as unconstitutional the entrance exams and interview session before admitting new students into the Ghana Law School.<\/p>\n<p>According to the court, in a case brought before it by Professor Kwaku Asare, a United States-based Ghanaian lawyer, in 2015, the requirements were in violation of the Legislative Instrument 1296 which gives direction for the mode of admission.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-336465 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/LLB-graduates-2.jpg\" alt=\"llb-graduates-2\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Justices in delivering their judgment, also indicated that their order should not take retrospective effect, but should be implemented in six months, when admissions for the 2018 academic year begins.<\/p>\n<p>This prompted the group to call on the General Legal Council to <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/08\/llb-graduates-unhappy-over-july-14-law-school-entrance-exams\/\"><strong>scrap the exams<\/strong><\/a><\/span> and the interview but the request was turned town.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Seidu Anas\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scores of LLB graduates on Friday turned up at the University of Ghana campus to write this year\u2019s law school entrance exam despite last minute attempts to halt the exercise.
