Popular Ugandan musician-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, has been sworn in as an MP. Bobi, 35, won a by-election for Kyadondo East, a constituency in central Uganda, on June 29 as an independent candidate.<\/p>\n
He was sworn in on Tuesday, July 11 at parliament buildings in Kampala. Both the governing National Resistance Movement and opposition parties have been wooing the newly elected MP.<\/p>\n

However, many of his supporters reportedly want him to challenge President Yoweri Museveni in the country’s 2021 election.<\/p>\n
Bobi was pictured recently shaking President Museveni’s hand at a public event, something that angered his supporters on social media.<\/p>\n

In response, he said: “I am a leader…and this country has a president. When I meet him on a function, especially on a funeral of a respected leader, it is only civilized that I greet him with respect. So my greeting to the president was courtesy.”<\/p>\n

His most recent song, Situka, urged Ugandans to rise against injustice and corruption. It also criticized the perceived lack of freedom of expression in Uganda.<\/p>\n
