Staff of the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital have called off their strike following an intervention by the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman Manu.<\/p>\n

They had earlier resolved not to return to work until government addressed the total take over of the frontage of the hospital by private developers.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”VTikPfOUwuFGIWuKAVDcWSYmSciJv4tQ”]Speaking to the press , the Minister of Health, Mr. Agyyeman Manu indicated that, government has an interest in the Hospital land. He said government has asked the owner of the land to halt construction until the matter is resolved.<\/p>\n

Workers of the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital stepped up their protest against government by staging a demonstration today [Wednesday].<\/p>\n

They were demanding government takes immediate steps to stop private developers from encroaching on their lands.<\/p>\n

An employee of the hospital who spoke to Citi News\u2019<\/strong> Zoe Abu Baidoo, said: \u201cA lot of people are encroaching on our lands and I think it is high time we demonstrate for the government to hear our plea. If we don\u2019t demonstrate how will the government hear us? A lot of them sell alcoholic beverages and you know it is a psychiatric hospital and we are preventing some of the patients from these beverages\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Another said: \u201cwe need space to develop the hospital. ”<\/p>\n

On Monday, dozens of patients who reported to the Pantang Hospital \u00a0were turned away as staff of the facility embarked on a sit-down strike.<\/p>\n

Some of the patients were left helpless as they loitered the premises of the hospital, hoping to be attended to.<\/p>\n
