<\/p>\nThe student\u2019s Representatives Council of the Family Health Medical School in collaboration with the Family Health Hospital over the weekend conducted free medical screening for the people of Teshie and its environs.<\/p>\n
About 700 people were screened for malaria, Hepatitis B & C, blood sugar levels, among other ailments.<\/p>\n
The program forms part of the School and the Hospitals corporate social responsibility to the neighborhood in which they operates.<\/p>\n

The ceremony brought together medical students from the family health medical school, doctors from the family health hospital, officials of the Lekma Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Health Service, the Ghana AIDS Commission, Traditional authority and hundreds of patrons of the medical screening.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the commencement of the medical screening exercise, the SRC president of the Family health Medical School Amanda Awumbei expressed her delight at the cordial rapport that existed between the community and the medical facilities.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have always enjoyed a good relationship with the good People of Teshie. Therefore, as part of our way of building a tradition of community service, the students are giving back to the Teshie community by holding the first free medical screening in Teshie.<\/p>\n

In addition to fostering a stronger relationship between the medical school and the community, we hope to use this event as a platform to sensitize the community on the power of prevention. While family Health Hospital is here to cater for the community\u2019s medical needs, we would rather educate members of the community not to fall ill from certain preventable diseases\u201d she said<\/p>\n
On his part, the president of the Family Health Medical School, professor Enyonam Yaw Kwawukume encouraged residents to adhere to basic health practices such as hand washing and the consumption of vegetables and fruits. A speech read on his behalf cautioned the people against excessive alcoholic intake and smoking.<\/p>\n
HIV\/AIDS REDUCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n A speech read on behalf of the Director General of the Ghana AIDS Commission by Rita Afriyie a Clinical Coordinator at the commission, debunked claims that the cure for HIV has been found, she further encourage the people to know their HIV status through testing.<\/p>\n She added that, realistic targets are set to end the menace soon.<\/p>\n \u201cThe UNAIDS has set a global target to End AIDS by 2030 and as part of the global agenda, the 90-90-90 fast track targets were adopted to quicken the pace of the response to the HIV and AIDS epidemic at the global, continental, country, regional and district levels.\u00a0 It involves setting ambitious treatment targets and accelerating the delivery of high impact HIV prevention and treatment services to ensure that by 2020, 90% of people living with HIV know their status, 90% of people who know their status would be on treatment and 90% of people on HIV treatment would have viral suppression\u201d she added<\/p>\n Some of the beneficiaries, who spoke to Citi News<\/strong>, expressed their gratitude to students and authorities for the kind gesture.<\/p>\n \u201cLast year I tested negative for HIV and this year, with the help of Family Health I have tested negative again.
