{"id":335786,"date":"2017-07-12T07:55:31","date_gmt":"2017-07-12T07:55:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=335786"},"modified":"2017-07-12T07:55:31","modified_gmt":"2017-07-12T07:55:31","slug":"govt-increases-minimum-wage-by-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/govt-increases-minimum-wage-by-10\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov&#8217;t increases minimum wage by 10%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Government has announced a 10 percent increase in the daily minimum wage for workers.<\/p>\n<p>A statement issued by the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations and cited by\u00a0<strong>Citi Business News<\/strong>, said the decision was taken by the National Tripartite Committee.<\/p>\n<p>The statement was jointly signed by Employment and Labour Relations Minister Ignatius Baffuor Awuah, for government, Terence Darko, for the Employers Association , and Dr Yaw Baah, for Labour.<\/p>\n<p>By this, the new minimum wage is 9.68 cedis, up from 8.80 cedis, and expected to take effect on January 1, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccordingly, the committee directs that any establishment, institution or organization whose Daily Minimum Wage is below the new National Daily Minimum wage should adjust its wages upward with effect from 1<sup style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">st<\/sup>\u00a0January, 2018,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement explained that the conclusion was reached on Tuesday, July 11 after a meeting held by government, labour and the employers association.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Any establishment, institution or organization that flouts the new rate shall be sanctioned in accordance with law,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Anita Arthur\/citibusinessnews.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Government has announced a 10 percent increase in the daily minimum wage for workers.
