{"id":335699,"date":"2017-07-12T05:58:08","date_gmt":"2017-07-12T05:58:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=335699"},"modified":"2017-07-12T05:58:08","modified_gmt":"2017-07-12T05:58:08","slug":"six-galamseyers-arrested-at-ayiem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/six-galamseyers-arrested-at-ayiem\/","title":{"rendered":"Six &#8216;galamseyers&#8217; arrested at Ayiem"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Six persons who were involved in illegal small scale mining at Ayiem, a farming community in the Mpohor District of the western region, have been arrested by police in the district.<\/p>\n<p>The six were mining in River Butre and the Subri River.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-335709 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/illegal-miners-arrested-in-western-region-9.jpg\" alt=\"illegal-miners-arrested-in-western-region-9\" width=\"810\" height=\"732\" \/><\/p>\n<p>An anti-galamsey task-force led by the Mpohor District Chief Executive, Ignatius Asaa Mensah, in collaboration with the Mpohor District Police Command on Monday carried out the raid.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-335708 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/illegal-miners-arrested-in-western-region-8.jpg\" alt=\"illegal-miners-arrested-in-western-region-8\" width=\"810\" height=\"908\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The six, Clement Fosu 27, Paul Sissie 21, Isaac Larbi 29, Emmanuel Godzo 29, Rafael Lewu 27 and Subina Kwesi 18, were spotted using \u201cChanfang\u201d machine on the two rivers in the late hours of Monday.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-335705 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/illegal-miners-arrested-in-western-region-14.jpg\" alt=\"illegal-miners-arrested-in-western-region-14\" width=\"810\" height=\"739\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Confirming the arrest to<strong> Citi News<\/strong>,\u00a0the DCE, Ignatius Asaa Mensah, explained that \u201cthe anti-galamsey task-force reported to me that they have spotted a group of young men mining in the Subri River. We mobilized ourselves and went to their area of operations. The police were able to arrest all of them and are currently at the Mpohor Police Command. They are taking their statements after which they will be arraigned tomorrow [Wednesday] before a magistrate at the Takoradi Circuit Court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Government has waged a serious war on the activity which is destroying the environment, farmlands and water bodies.
