{"id":334764,"date":"2017-07-08T10:34:49","date_gmt":"2017-07-08T10:34:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=334764"},"modified":"2017-07-08T10:34:49","modified_gmt":"2017-07-08T10:34:49","slug":"nss-over-2000-personnel-deployed-for-planting-for-food-and-jobs-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/nss-over-2000-personnel-deployed-for-planting-for-food-and-jobs-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"NSS: Over 2,000 personnel deployed for \u2018Planting for food and jobs\u2019 policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A total of 2,170 National Service Personnel have been posted to serve under the government\u2019s \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/04\/19\/planting-for-food-and-jobs-will-succeed-nana-addo\/\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>Planting for Food and Jobs<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u2019 program expected to be rolled out this year.<\/p>\n<p>According to the acting Executive Director of the <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/07\/nss-posts-over-91000-service-personnel-for-20172018\/\"><strong>National Service Scheme<\/strong><\/a><\/span> (NSS), Ussif Mustapha, this was to promote the President Akufo-Addo\u2019s vision of transforming the agricultural sector in the country.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;cmrRX828JqNjXXto1J0C0NcKwoOtwIpT&#8221;]The Planting for Food and Jobs program is one of the government\u2019s flagship programs aimed at improving agricultural production in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The program government is expected roll out the program in all 216 districts of the country and will involve the supply of farm resources such as high yielding and improved seedlings to participating farmers.<\/p>\n<p>The farmers will also get agrochemicals such as fertilizer at reduced prices.<\/p>\n<p>The government said the program will create some 750,000 jobs and would motivate farmers to grow staple foods such as maize, millet, and beans.<\/p>\n<p>Before the deployed personnel commence work on September 1, the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana has cast doubt on their ability to do a good job and has said their engagement for extension services as part of the \u2018Planting for Food and Job\u2019 program will make the program unsuccessful.<\/p>\n<p>The Programme Officer for the Association, Charles Kwowe Nyaaba, in a <strong>Citi News<\/strong> interview said, \u201cThe approach of recruiting extension service personnel to help in the programme is wrong. If you go to the Ministry of Agriculture at the district level, you have the extension officers there who are not able to visit farming communities because of lack of logistics. You leave all these people hanging there and you say you are bringing National Service personnel to train them to go and train the farmers.
