The Ghana Police Service has warned workers in the public service to be wary of the activities of fraudsters who have devised new strategies to defraud them.<\/p>\n
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police said the fraudsters pose as staff of the Controller and Accountant General\u2019s Department to lure unsuspecting public sector workers to pay them various sums under the threat of freezing their salaries.<\/p>\n
The statement signed by Chief Inspector David Fianko-Okyere said, \u201cit has come to the notice of the Police that the fraudsters are targeting public sector workers posing as staff of Controller and Accountant General\u2019s Department.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to him, \u201cthese fraudsters place telephone calls to unsuspecting public sector workers requesting their biometric social security numbers for a purported account reconciliation.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the course of communication, the fraudsters demand some unspecified amount from the workers and then truncate communication thereafter.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cRecipients of these fraudulent calls are threatened with stoppage of their salaries if they fail to comply with their demands.\u201d<\/p>\n
It, therefore, urged public sector workers to be vigilant and refrain from sharing their personal detail via social media and phone to persons they are uncertain about.<\/p>\n
\u201cMembers of the public especially public sector workers are advised not to share their personal details on phone and other social media platforms and report any suspicion to the nearest Police Station.\u201d<\/p>\n
