The Deputy Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Moses Anim, says the news of the National Lottery Authority spending GH¢150,000 on the Finance Committee, doesn’t bode well for the image of the legislature, and also has the tendency to erode patriotism among Ghanaians.

According to him, there is the need to probe the matter to establish the truth to restore confidence in the governance system of the country.

It emerged that the National Lottery Authority spent about GH¢150,000 on allowances to members of the Finance Committee of the previous Parliament.

The allowances were said to have facilitated deliberations on the amendment of the National Lottery Act. Three anti-corruption civil groups have called for independent investigations into the matter, noting that the integrity of Parliament was fast weaning amidst many other similar allegations that have rocked the house.

Adding his voice to the call during the launch of the Patriotic Professionals Institute Ghana, Moses Anim, who is also the Member of Parliament Trobu constituency, said Ghanaians must be provided with the right information to help restore their confidence in the legislature.

“I would want us to get the committee involved and also leadership in parliament involved to find out the truth. Let’s go back into it. I know that information like this without basis and explanations will dent the patriotism of Ghanaians,” he said.
