{"id":33309,"date":"2014-07-21T13:48:21","date_gmt":"2014-07-21T13:48:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=33309"},"modified":"2014-07-21T13:48:21","modified_gmt":"2014-07-21T13:48:21","slug":"parliamentary-committee-to-meet-potag-over-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/07\/parliamentary-committee-to-meet-potag-over-strike\/","title":{"rendered":"Parliamentary Committee to meet POTAG over strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Parliamentary Select Committee on Education will be meeting striking Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG) members on Tuesday over their almost two- month- long strike.<\/p>\n<p>The Polytechnic teachers have been on strike for more than two months over their unpaid book and research allowance, forcing Polytechnics across the country to shutdown.<\/p>\n<p>An Accra Human Rights Court ordered the National Labour Commission (NLC) to resort to a compulsory arbitration with the lecturers but nothing has been done about the situation as POTAG members are still on strike.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <b>Citi News<\/b>, the President of POTAG, James Dugra said the Association\u2019s meeting will mainly revolve around their Book and Research Allowance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not asking government to pay us the money instantly but government should even agree they owe us and give us some time even if the economy is facing some challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will appreciate it if Ghanaians ask government when they will pay our money, then the answer to our questions will be very clear,\u201d Mr. Dugra stated.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Parliamentary Select Committee on Education will be meeting striking Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG) members on Tuesday over their almost two- month- long strike.
