{"id":333026,"date":"2017-06-30T14:54:46","date_gmt":"2017-06-30T14:54:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=333026"},"modified":"2017-06-30T14:54:46","modified_gmt":"2017-06-30T14:54:46","slug":"akufo-addos-daughters-join-glam-africa-to-support-children-with-autism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/06\/akufo-addos-daughters-join-glam-africa-to-support-children-with-autism\/","title":{"rendered":"Akufo-Addo&#8217;s daughters join Glam Africa to support children with Autism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three sisters, Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, Valerie Obaze, and Edwina Akufo-Addo, with diverse experiences and skills, have come together to put the spotlight on autism and support scores of children on the Spectrum, cared for at the Autism Awareness Care and Training Centre (AACT) in Accra.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-333056 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/akufuo-addo-and-bawumia-at-glam-africa-autism-program-2.jpg\" alt=\"akufuo-addo-and-bawumia-at-glam-africa-autism-program-2\" width=\"768\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-333057 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/akufuo-addo-and-bawumia-at-glam-africa-autism-program-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"akufuo-addo-and-bawumia-at-glam-africa-autism-program-1\" width=\"620\" height=\"414\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-333052 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/autism-support-26.jpg\" alt=\"autism-support-26\" width=\"697\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Autism is a highly variable neurodevelopmental disorder, which usually affects children at the early stages and presents among other things, great communication and emotional challenges for them.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-333054 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/autism-support-1.jpg\" alt=\"autism-support-1\" width=\"512\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In Ghana, autism affects approximately 1 in every 150 children.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-333053 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/autism-support-27.jpg\" alt=\"autism-support-27\" width=\"543\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My Sister&#8217;s Keeper Foundation on Thursday 29th June 2017, partnered with Glam Africa Magazine, to host \u2018Glam Africa Ball&#8217; to raise a targeted GHc 250,000 to support the project.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-333050 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/autism-support-24.jpg\" alt=\"autism-support-24\" width=\"768\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The funds were raised from different sources, including selling the dinner tables at the glam event, auctioning items including outfits from the Nineteen 57 by KOD clothing line, Modella B fashion, paintings from the Autism Awareness Care and Training Centre, art work from respected Ghanaian artist Kofi Agorsor as well as a brand new vehicle courtesy of Svani Motors which was raffled on the day.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-333049 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/autism-support-22.jpg\" alt=\"autism-support-22\" width=\"768\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The highly successful event brought together philanthropists and well wishers across the globe. The President, Nana Akufo-Addo and the First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo were also present to support their children, who are focused on creating an impact-driven organization to give back to the society and help to build a safer and happier nation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-333048 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/autism-support-20.jpg\" alt=\"autism-support-20\" width=\"512\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p>According to one of the sisters, Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, \u201cit is imperative for Ghanaians to be educated about ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) to stop the stigmatization that is usually associated with autism.
