{"id":332991,"date":"2017-06-30T13:56:18","date_gmt":"2017-06-30T13:56:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=332991"},"modified":"2017-06-30T13:56:18","modified_gmt":"2017-06-30T13:56:18","slug":"us-commits-to-doubling-trade-volumes-with-ghana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/06\/us-commits-to-doubling-trade-volumes-with-ghana\/","title":{"rendered":"US commits to doubling trade volumes with Ghana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The American government says it is committed to double its trade volumes with Ghana via continuous investments to add value to Ghana\u2019s exports.<\/p>\n<p>The US Ambassador to Ghana, Robert Jackson explains that this should increase Ghana\u2019s trade volume with the US from the current 1.2 billion dollars to 2.4 billion dollars.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Jackson made the remarks at a ceremony to commemorate USA\u2019s 241<sup>st<\/sup> Independence Celebration in Accra on Thursday, June 29<sup>th<\/sup>, 2017.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-332996 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/MG_1758.jpg\" alt=\"_mg_1758\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I want to do is building on what we are already doing in our agro- industry; see a lot more processed goods being exported into the US. So rather than see more raw cashew, cocoa and mangoes, we are seeing finished products being exported to the United States and I believe there is enormous potential to see Ghana\u2019s exports increase. That will create more jobs which will also result in more American investments here in Ghana,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Already, Ghana is benefiting from the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) in its agricultural sector.<\/p>\n<p>Ambassador Jackson also believes efforts to tap into the potential of Ghana\u2019s textile industry should triple textile exports within the next few years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-332993\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/MG_1519.jpg\" alt=\"_mg_1519\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u201cThere is also great opportunity in the textile sector. I believe that Ghana\u2019s textile export to the United States could easily triple within two to three years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The event also marked 60 years of bilateral relationship between the US and Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the same event, Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta was highly confident policies to diversify the economy and improved oil production should also increase Ghana\u2019s trade volumes with the US within the short to medium term.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-332997 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/MG_1796.jpg\" alt=\"_mg_1796\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we have seen since 2012 is that we have gotten a positive trade balance of over 2.8 billion dollars since that period and our expectation is that we will continue to increase that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think with the diversification of the economy for more value added products, that should increase and with the new finds in oil, that should also help that,\u201d Mr. Ofori Atta remarked.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-332994 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/MG_1692.jpg\" alt=\"_mg_1692\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In attendance were key state institutions both in Ghana and the US.<\/p>\n<p>Also present were invited guests and dignitaries in media, business, academia among others.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Pius Amihere Eduku\/citibusinessnews.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The American government says it is committed to double its trade volumes with Ghana via continuous investments to add value to Ghana\u2019s exports.
