The London Eye has been evacuated after a member of the public spotted an unexploded World War Two bomb.<\/p>\n
Cordons in the Waterloo area of the capital were put in place and police and people were forced to leave the ride.<\/p>\n
Police boats were seen on the River Thames and a force helicopter also circled overhead, after a tourist spotted the object near the river.<\/p>\n
A woman, named Kade, said, that the London Eye had to be sped up to get everyone off the landmark.<\/p>\n
She tweeted: ‘The whole area around the London Eye was evacuated by police while we were at the top and they had to speed it up to get everyone off.’<\/p>\n
A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman told the Evening Standard: ‘Police were called at 10.30am to reports of suspected World War Two ordnance seen on the foreshore of the River Thames.<\/p>\n
‘Cordons are in place while the object is assessed.’<\/p>\n
The cordons were lifted this afternoon due to the tide coming in.<\/p>\n
The Thames Clipper twitter account said the London Eye Pier had been re-opened after an hour and apologised for the inconvenience.<\/p>\n
It said the boat service would resume as per the timetable.<\/p>\n
