{"id":330077,"date":"2017-06-20T17:45:27","date_gmt":"2017-06-20T17:45:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=330077"},"modified":"2017-06-20T17:45:27","modified_gmt":"2017-06-20T17:45:27","slug":"catherine-afeku-visits-tourist-sites-in-western-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/06\/catherine-afeku-visits-tourist-sites-in-western-region\/","title":{"rendered":"Catherine Afeku visits tourist sites in Western Region"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Catherine Ablema Afeku and her Deputy, Dr. Ziblim Iddi ,as well as other members of the Tourism Ministry, are on a four-day working visit to the Western Region, touring heritage sites and other tourist sites in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Catherine paid courtesy calls on the Western Regional Minister and the Paramount Chief of the Essikadu Traditional Area, Nana Kobina Nketsia IV.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-330104 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/tourism-minister-in-western-region-12.jpg\" alt=\"tourism-minister-in-western-region-12\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" \/><\/p>\n<p>She also met with other private sector stakeholders within the tourism industry in the region.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-330103 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/tourism-minister-in-western-region-11.jpg\" alt=\"tourism-minister-in-western-region-11\" width=\"432\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p>She used the opportunity to tell them about government&#8217;s intentions of reviving the sector and to make it more attractive to Ghanaians and other tourists from around the world.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-330106 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/tourism-minister-in-western-region-14.jpg\" alt=\"tourism-minister-in-western-region-14\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" \/><\/p>\n<p>She said her Ministry has identified the poor hospitality standards in some of the facilities across the country, which will be addressed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The government is partnering some Swiss experts to help address the education and training deficit we see in the industry. Their modules are going to help us train our people to exhibit high customer relations among hoteliers and other related stakeholders. Our trained people will become trainers for others too.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-330101 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/tourism-minister-in-western-region-9.jpg\" alt=\"tourism-minister-in-western-region-9\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Some managers of traditional and modern hospitality facilities bemoaned the many taxes and other rates slapped on them in the face of utility hikes and low patronage.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-330100 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/tourism-minister-in-western-region-8.jpg\" alt=\"tourism-minister-in-western-region-8\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is EPA dues, tourism levy, federation dues etc totaling some 18 individual dues.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-330105 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/tourism-minister-in-western-region-13.jpg\" alt=\"tourism-minister-in-western-region-13\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The dues are too many and we wish your ministry could harmonize all of them in the face of the challenges facing the sector,&#8221; one hotelier bemoaned.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-330099 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/tourism-minister-in-western-region-7.jpg\" alt=\"tourism-minister-in-western-region-7\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Minister revealed plans are currently being considered to harmonize all the rates and also to seek some utility relief for the industry through an LI at the consideration stage in Parliament.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-330098 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/tourism-minister-in-western-region-6.jpg\" alt=\"tourism-minister-in-western-region-6\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Minister&#8217;s entourage then left for Axim in the Nzema East Municipality where she visited the traditional authority in the Lower Axim Traditional Area. They pledged their support for the Ministry&#8217;s vision to revamp some abandoned tourist sites in the Municipality.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-330097 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/tourism-minister-in-western-region-5.jpg\" alt=\"tourism-minister-in-western-region-5\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It was then the time to visit the Bebo Ayizi Island some five minutes away from the Axim shores.
