{"id":330042,"date":"2017-06-20T16:00:18","date_gmt":"2017-06-20T16:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=330042"},"modified":"2017-06-20T16:00:18","modified_gmt":"2017-06-20T16:00:18","slug":"tamale-gprtu-defies-tma-order-for-main-lorry-terminal-relocation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/06\/tamale-gprtu-defies-tma-order-for-main-lorry-terminal-relocation\/","title":{"rendered":"Tamale GPRTU defies TMA order for main lorry terminal relocation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Leadership of the Tamale branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), today (Tuesday) defied the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly\u2019s order for relocation of the main lorry station near the State Transport Company (STC) yard.<\/p>\n<p>The Metropolitan Security Task Force gave the GPRTU leadership 10 days ultimatum to relocate to the Kukuo market which elapsed on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;doSzCYRdHEN14ALdWDkpXZqnd5wVOKOZ&#8221;]The drivers led by their leadership in red armbands however refused the proposed relocation.<\/p>\n<p>According to them, the Kukuo market is not conducive for their operations.<\/p>\n<p>They vowed never to kowtow to the Tamale Metropolitan Security Task-Force order until the Kukuo market is suitable. Secretary to the Tamale-Walewale local union, Dan Bawah, accused the city authorities of ineptitude in handling the situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe District Assembly came out and said that we should leave the premises and go to the Kukuo market. Actually when they came and we went to the Kukuo market, there was no shelter and no offices even for us. Then we told them that this place is not conducive for travelling, and that we are going to punish our passengers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey said they gave us 10 days ultimatum and yesterday [Monday] was the deadline, and up till now they have not gone back to the Kukuo market to do anything.
