{"id":3286,"date":"2014-03-02T19:36:56","date_gmt":"2014-03-02T19:36:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=3286"},"modified":"2014-06-10T09:00:15","modified_gmt":"2014-06-10T09:00:15","slug":"mahama-to-break-grounds-for-construction-of-50-new-day-shs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/03\/mahama-to-break-grounds-for-construction-of-50-new-day-shs\/","title":{"rendered":"Mahama to break grounds for construction of 50 new day SHS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President John Mahama will perform a ground breaking ceremony\u00a0in Nyanoa, near Adeiso in the Upper West Akyem District of the Eastern Region on Monday, 3rd March, for the start of work on the first batch of fifty (50) new Community Day Senior High Schools.<\/p>\n<p>This will be the first ever Senior High School constructed for the people of Nyanoa and 50 other such communities across the country.<\/p>\n<p>In his State of the Nation Address to Parliament last Tuesday, 25th February, President Mahama promised\u00a0to cut the sod for the construction of the first 50 schools, as part of a total of 200 new Community Day\u00a0Senior High Schools to be built across the nation.<\/p>\n<p>The new schools will help Government fulfill the objective of expanding and improving access to secondary\u00a0education in the country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Existing secondary schools have a capacity to absorb only 60% of the students who qualify from Junior High\u00a0School. Because of the high demand for secondary education, existing schools have been compelled to admit\u00a0much higher than they were designed to accommodate,&#8221; President Mahama explained.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This has led to\u00a0circumstances in which there are some schools with as many as 3,000 students, twice the prescribed\u00a0average of 1,500.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Government has secured funding for the new schools, and each project is expected to take 18 months to complete.<\/p>\n<p>The ground-breaking ceremony in Nyanoa is scheduled to start from 10am.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Source: Flagstaff House Communications Bureau<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President John Mahama will perform a ground breaking ceremony\u00a0in Nyanoa, near Adeiso in the Upper West Akyem District of the Eastern Region on Monday, 3rd March, for the start of work on the first batch of fifty (50) new Community Day Senior High Schools.
